About 25% of the time when I slam a fresh mag in my G30 with the slide back the act of knocking the mag home with the palm of my hand will release the slide and load a round in the chamber. Is this typical? Also I do really have to give the mag a good whack on the bottom to get it to seat, is that common?

The same thing happens to me sometimes with my 21C. The 10round clips I have really need a good slap to seat in fully.

Every body I know with a G30 can do the same thing. It's a pretty fast way to put one in the pipe but it's not 100 percent and so you can't depend on it. Relax and shoot your gun.

I had a similar situation on a "first" generation G21...I took the weapon back to Glock and they made a deeper cut into the slide stop. That cured the problem. traintrackker

I have had that happen with my G21 a few times. I just keep it pointed downrange whenever I insert a mag. So, it's no big deal.

Try changing the attitude of pistol when reloading. I found that when I reloaded with the muzzle pointed down, I suffered from the "auto slide". If I keep the pistol level, I didn't have that issue.

It allows a faster tactical reload

Another subtle advantage of the Glock.

I have also noticed this and can't decide if its a good or bad thing...

This happens with two of my three Glocks. I really like this "feature" in my race gun...

This is normal with all Glocks and has been discussed here before. The following comes from www.glockmeister.com:

Q: When the slide is locked back and I slam in a full mag, the slide is released - how can I fix that?
A: There is nothing to fix. When you slam a loaded mag into the gun, the gun is usually at a slight angle with the muzzle up. When you slam in the mag, you cause a slight rearward momentum on the slide and release pressure on the slide stop lever, thus allowing the slide stop lever spring to do its job and return the slide stop lever to the lowered position. If you are still unsure about this - try holding the gun level and steady - jam a loaded mag in now - I'll bet the slide doesn't close now.

Only Glock would have this Beautiful feature.

Slam a loaded mag into any pistol while the slide is being locked back will invariably cause the slide to slam forward. It's not limited to Glock pistols.
