As stated in other threads, I just bought my G22 a week ago. What mods/enhancements are really worth the time/money?

Extended slide release and extended slide release are the only two things I've changed on my 19.

I felt like these were almost a must have, because the factory parts are way too small for my hands.

Install Trijicon (or other) night sights. No need for anything else.

depends on what you're wanting to do with it or depends on your needs.

Very true. This being my first Glock I just wasnt sure what mods are worth it. My previous guns have been Llamas, Rugers, and Sigs. Primarily it will be for self/home defense and practice shooting. The night sites are something Im definately going to look into. Had them on my Sig and loved them.

for a defensive gun i'd change the sights to something i liked and leave the rest alone. extended slide release sounds good but in reality you aren't going to be doing any reloads in most situations and the over hand weak hand on the slide works pretty well.

On a G22, all you need is some good night sights. I recommend the TruGlo TFO's. I have them on all my GLOCKs...best night sights made, if you like the normal 3-dot system. If not, try the XS Big Dots.

You can also buy a stock G31 barrel, and with your same mags shoot .357 SIGs with your G22.

No other mods are needed, contrary to what many might tell you on this thread.

In my opinion, the only weak part of a Glock is the plastic sights. The first time a changed out a set, I was amazed at how easy it is to "pluck" out the front sight with a small pair of pliers.

That being said, I change out the sights. If the Glock has a serrated trigger, I swap it for a smooth one. It its a carry gun, I install an extended slide release. A range gun gets an extended slide release, extended mag release and usually a 3 1/2# connector. Except for the sights, I perfer stock Glock parts.

There are almost none that are really an improvement, other than for certain limited uses. I have tried, 3.5 connector, sights, extended slide stop/mag release, grip sleeves, etc., but the only things I have found give more benefit that harm are the extended mag release and some skateboard gripp tape on the grip. The extended slide stop/release was definitely more harm than good (locks back when loaded and doesn't lock back when empty too often) and the 3.5 connector worked before I learned to sue the Glock trigger properly - after that it actually made it much ahrder to shoot accurately, fast.

I have been using Glock original plastic sights on competition, carry and police duty guns for nearly 20 years and they have always worked fine. I've also tried some others and may try more, but I still like the plastic and I've never had one break or seen it happen.

You like the TruGlo better than the MEPROLIGHTS? Are they made of metal? I'm looking for some night sights and my gun shop sells the MEPROs...so I'm getting opinions. They are expensive for what you get. Looks like about $30 should cover them...not $80+
Thanks

Not just TruGlo, but TruGlo TFO's. Yes, they are made of metal. They are more expensive than most other sights, but are well worth the money. They are brighter at night, and MUCH brighter in daylight and low light than any other night sight.

The reason is that they are both tritium AND fiber optic. Normal night sights (meps, ameriglo, trijicons, etc.) are harder to see in the daytime and low light. They're ok at night, but still not as bright as the TFO's.

Got 'a know what you want and where you're going before you start doing mods. (Helps to know how to take the Glock apart and, then, put it back together again too.)

Meprolights, 4.5# LWD connector, Wolff non-captured, steel guide rod, & heavier springs have - pretty much - done it for me. Oh, yeah, LWD trigger stop, too.

I have a G-17 that I keep for HD. The mods I have done that I feel were 100% worth it are the night sights, the extended slide release and a tac light.

I also did some others like a grip plug, extended mag release and replaced some trigger parts to make it a better trigger.

The fact is, night sights are about the only thing that it really needs. I like the tac light as well if for HD.

I am not planning on reloading during a gunfight with my 17rd G-17. I don't even have a spare loaded mag. The extended controls are more for the range than for HD but the extended slide release is a really nice feature. It makes a world of difference to me. I have short thumbs I guess because the regular one was hard for me to depress.

Yeah I found out how to strip and reassemble the gun as soon as I got it. Thats always been one of the first things I learn. Since my hands are somewhat small (wide hands/kinda short fingers) I may try the extended slide release. Also looking to buy a G23 too!!

Glock only started offering those extended slide levers after American shooters started crying for them.

I used to put them on all my Glocks then stopped doing it because the "over hand weak hand on the slide" method is the PROPER way to rack the slide. It's a gross motor skill. Fumbling with a slide lever...even an extended one...is a fine motor skill that will no doubt deteriorate in a crisis.

To each his own, but looking back I consider the purchase of those little parts to be a waste of money.

Yeah, I'm another one of those who'll never understand where, 'extended slide releases' (sic) came from? (gun game players, right!) I just think that Lou Chiodo had it so right when he taught the CHP how to do it overhand; and, if results are any proof, then, Chiodo definitely had it right! ;)

No way would I put an extended SLIDE STOP on a Glock. Those things remind me of whatever Janet Jackson had hanging off her nipple at Super Bowl XXXVIII.
