View Full Version : How often do you guys shoot?
When I first got my 22 I was going about once a month. Now with the 23 and the 22 I feel I NEED/WANT to go more often. I think after practicing so much on the 22 I don't want to lose touch with it and I need to practice more with my new 23. I got a funny feeling that in about 4-5 months you guys are gonna hear about me getting a 27! That means more ammo...this is never gonna end! And then the 26 or the 21....blah blah blah...

I usually hit the range about once every 7 to 10 days. Not only do I get some good practice in but for once, there are no phones or pagers going off. Just a man and his Glocks.;f
BTW Check out your local gun shows for good prices on ammo. I bought a case of .40 Winchester "white box" a couple of Saturday's ago for $85/case and no tax. Beats the heck out of $12.99 + tax per box in the stores.

a minimum of 2x a week. If I miss a week or a day, I feel rusty and out of shape.

I try to shoot at least twice a month. Typically shoot 200-250 rounds per range visit---various guns G23, G19.... Most ranges have annual rates so you save a bit of money.

I shoot quarterly,
hence MajorSub 366.5
I shoot at least 200 rounds a week year round not including trap shooting during the summer. That adds another 50 to 100 rounds a week. The rest of my time I spend reloading or working.

I try to go at least once a week. It's easy for me since the range I frequent is about 2 miles away, and with the membership I can show up anytime to shoot. Plus since I reload my own practice ammo it's pretty cheap. I feel it's my duty to practice often since I do carry concealed.
I try to practice with my G23/32 at least twice a week unless work gets a bit too hectic. I generally shoot 200rds each session. To me it's a great stress release.

as of late ive been getting out twice, sometimes 3x a week. but 1 at the very least.
Twice a week, minimum. Either 2 matches, or a match and a practice.

I typically go at least once a week, twice if I can make it. I usually shoot 200-250 rounds of 9mm and .40. Maybe once a month I'll get out the Ruger .22 and make some tiny holes.

Two matches per week minimum IPSC and IDPA.
Once a week. I usually rotate between my G26 &
G22. 100-150 rounds. Sometimes I whip out the
Ruger MKII or S&W 38. The price of ammo is killin'
me though. ;c =;f
Not often enough! My wife and I used to be very active in the "local" pin shooting league, so we generally shot twice a week (one for practice, and once at the matches). Sadly, job and other activities have cut into that time - hope to get back with it sometime.

Once a week 50-100rnds... after all 50rnds a week is WAY better then 200-400 once a month...
As often as I can. Roughly 150 to 200 rounds per visit. The range I shoot at just added the live fire FATS machine. The only down fall about it is you have to shoot their ammo @ $10.95 per 50.

When I was still living at my parents house it was at least once a week, often more. Now that I've moved away, I'm lucky to shoot twice a month.
I don't think that I could make it out to the range once a week. I'm at about 1-2 times a month.

1 match a week, 2-3 times for fun. 100-200 rounds per visit, split between the G22 on my belt and the G27 on my ankle...

At least 200-300 rounds every other week depending upon where I am at or where I am going along with caliber I am carrying at the time.

Shoot three matches a week plus whatever practice.
Its nothing odd to shoot 7 days a week.

twice a month i go to indoor range.
I'm out there a few days a week. 2 of those I'll get pistol practice in. I try to get one day a week where all I do I work on hitting things far away with my bolt gun. I'm very good with a pistol so I don't need the hardcore practice all the time( I can draw my weapon and hit a beer keg at 100 yards first shot all the time). A couple days a week keeps me very sharp When I shoot my pistols I'll go through about 500 rounds a session of 40 and 9mm. But hitting those 12" steel plates at 1,000 yards......I have a lot to learn and burn into my brain.
I have a new 22 pistol that will have me shooting many more rounds too I think.
I think I'm addicted

I envy you . I just dream of having a job that would allow me to shot 8-to-5 5 days aweek or can afford to go to the range 7days a week.

I would take a job like that.
A yearly membership to the range allows you to use the range anytime you want.
At least at one of my home ranges works that way.
Rimfire is also a great way to practice.
Range time also doesn't always mean shooting.
Dry practice is very important to improving your techniques.
9-5 in shooting requires that everything be bought. Anyone that shoots that much would not have the time to load all the ammo fired and maintain his equipment. This doesn't even include to how much time it would take to view tape, go over different techniques and reading to be done.
Then of course there is the recording and reviewing of targets and times.
What it comes down to is there is no such thing as shooting 9-5 but there is taking care of your shooing 9-5.
Oh ya, I forgot to mention the physical training.
End of rambling.

I usually shoot between 15-20 thousand rounds per year. More rounds spent when the weather is warm and when bigger matches are near. When it gets cold here, I do more dry-firing than live-fire.
Just make sure you are practicing proper technique because you can reinforce crappy habits as well as proper ones.
Happiness is owning a Dillon Super 1050!
Good luck and be SAFE!!!
I burn a couple 100 rounds a week, always practicing tactical with steel plates and steel BG targets with a IDPA match once a month. My counter parts only go qualify once a month as required.
Having the ability of having a tiny town setup as well as some old cars, and a forested setting area for going after BG's in the woods helps with keeping up on training for the real deal.
After each run through we can change the setting of the BG's we're engaging. Having steel gives an unmistakable sound of knowing a hit or a miss. Repainting each one after, ensures of knowing where your hits went. Old T-Shirts from the Salvation Army and paint cost a bit more to use than paper targets, but can be used time and time again.
I realize that not all of our shooters here can set up a range this way but I am lucky to have my own property on the back fourty to do this.
After all we are training for "Real Life" situations aren't we!

Depending on other duties, I try and shoot at the range at least 4 times a month, and if I'm lucky, sometimes a couple more times ... anywhere from 50-500 rounds, as time permits. That doesn't count dry-fire and presentation practice away from the range, though ...

No but if i am ever over run by reams of paper and steel plates..I will be safe!!!;)
Sorry Aussie humour esp with beers mmmmmmmmmm
ps due to left wing polititions we are only just allowed to own guns down under. We dont have a NRA or firearms manufactures who can stick up for us...just a bunch of whining greenies and poli's so we appease them by not "praticing to shoot at people" in fact our laws protect criminals from gun owners ...not the other way around...now getof my soapbox and back to the fun....hon wheres my gun there is a kangaroo in the front paddock
But I shoot at least 1 per week with my 22c and try to get a bit more in with my Browning buckmaster. Small caliber I find helps with the accuracy during training;f ;w
I feel that you can never shoot enough.I shoot 4000 rounds a month with my carry weapons.About 500 rounds a month MP5.
Practice Practice Practice!

Every weekend. I typically blow through 150-200 rounds. I enjoy reloading ALMOST as much and I enjoy shooting.
cheers;f
I try to shoot every other week.
At least 100-200 rounds through My Dan Wesson 22LR revolver at 25, 50 and 100 yards.
And 100 rounds of whatever centerfire handgun I take with me. Usually a 1911, Taurus PT99, EAA Witness or my G23.
usually once and up to a couple of times a week :)
I guess I'd average between 50-100 a week. Wish I could do more but ammo isn't cheap. It's good to know that so many out there that practice soo much. Hopefully that means you're all very good shooters and very well trained.
