Can anyone suggest some places to go riding there this fall? My two buddies and I take a "guy" trip every fall and this year we want to go ATV'ing. We all live near the Twin Cities so it will be a hike for us but if we find a good place it will be worth it. We own our own ATV's so we only need a place to ride not rent.

Michigan has tons of state maintained ORV trails. Since your in MN, I imagine you will be coming through the upper penninsula? If so I would ride there. Much less congestion, I imagine. I live in southern MI and always ride in the lower penninsula, so I can't help you much with areas to ride in the UP. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

If you are really feeling adventurous you should consider the Hatfield McCoy trail system in WV. Simply amazing.

Drummond Island but it has been 9 or 10 years since I was there.

More noise pollution is not what we need.

Give me your address and I'll make sure we steer clear.

Some (most, but sadly not all) of us ride responsibly. The point of this thread was to learn where in MI we can ride responsibly.

Thanks for the input.

So I guess you never shoot your firearms, huh?

www.michigan.gov has plenty of trail maps for the ORV trail network. They're kind of small, but if you print them out on photo paper at high resolution and laminate them, they're great trail ready references.

Michigan has more than 3000 miles of mapped, maintained, and groomed trails. Come, enjoy, tread lightly, and ride responsibly. We're happy to have you!

I've never hit the trails in the UP. I know some great areas in the northern lower peninsula though...

I rode my quad on some ATV trails in the Ludington area. Actually right by Luther. I almost got run over buy a guy going about 70 MPH coming around a corner. The trails are nice just dont go there on Weekends in the summer if you can help they are very busy.

Leota trails near Harrison are supposed to be good. Harrison is about 30 miles north of Clare which is in the middle of the lower penninsula.

houghton county here in the UP is an excellent place to ride. nice trails, we dont mind a little pollution. and if your looking for a little mud we got plenty of that most of the year too, expecially in the fall.
