I bought a pistol from Epsylum yesterday.

Great price and the gun was better than described. Epsylum is a stand up gent, deal with confidence.

Pleasure meeting you Eric, thanks again for the great deal.

That is all, carry on.

P99, how dare you come in here, brag about your new piece and then neglect to put up pictures? Or at least tell us what it was that you bought?!

That's just rude!

Good to hear! And I second the no photos! :)

Man, I really wish we were allowed to have a "for sale" thread here. We are an extremely active bunch here in Indiana and FTF deals are so much easier and cheaper for all involved. I'd love to deal with members, but know of no easy way for now.

Ok, time to turn the tables...

How on earth could you justify SELLING that rig?! What were you thinking?!

I will preface this with the fact that I think Glocks are fine firearms. That being said, I am currently leaning toward 1911s. I found myself carrying the G30 less and less and my Springer more and more. I can't get too emotionally attached to a Glock as they aren't exactly a rare bird. If I do feel the need to get another one, there are a gazillion of them to choose from out there.

Fair enough, fair enough.

Which model is the Springfield and why does it seem that in the last year practically half the shooters I know have moved to 1911s?!

I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon sooner or later... Maybe when the tax return comes in.

That said, I'm thinking of spending it on AR lowers and standard-cap Glock mags. I'm quite worried about the 2008 elections... That is, if the Supreme Court doesn't wee all over us first!

Where you getting that from?

1911s are over rated. Try a SIG 220 and report back.

I've had 2 SIG 220's, and find them.....uncomfortable to manipulate. I've shot 1911's so long, I found it difficult to get used to the DA/SA.

And, to me, the 220 was too 'fat' for a single stack.

Only SIG I now own is a P6. Nice little pistol.

Haha not from this board, just in my social circle.

Literally six or seven of my shooting acquaintances have been bitten by the 1911 bug over the last few months... I mean, I'd love to have a nice one, but I like the capacity and durability that "black" guns offer.

A Sig is next up on my to-buy list. 228 or 229DAK, 9mm.

I like the 228 better as well and I had a beautiful W.German one w/ a nickel slide and nightsights. I sold it only because the little SIGs don't fit my hands very well. It shot great though.

I have a Springfield Champion Lightweight Operator (the name is mouthful ;) ). It basically means it is a 4" bull barrel version (Champion), has an aluminum frame (Lightweight), and has a rail (Operator). It has proven to be EXTREMELY reliable in the over 2k rounds I have fired through it included just about every kind of JHP and I have gotten my hands on. I shoot it very well and it really isn't that bad to carry thanks to the aluminum frame. It also comes with the Springfield Armory Coat finish which is a teflon based spray on finish that looks great and holds up very well and night sights are standard on that particular model. I just put some slimline Alumagrips on it and bit of skateboard grip tape on the front strap and viola... my favorite carry gun so far.

As for why people are getting into 1911s, well I don't know about them. I know why I decided to go that way though. They shoot great and they feel great. I am more accurate with my Springfield that I ever was with my 30. I can shoot the Springfield faster and more accurately, so that was the deciding factor.

Another deciding factor was the S&W M&P line. I really like them and now with the rebate and free mag deal they are doing, I am planning on getting an M&P compact 9mm and maybe the 45 compact they introduced at the SHOT show in the future. They just feel better in my hands than a Glock and I like the trigger feel better on them as well.

As for buying your first 1911. Whenever you get around to it, keep in mind that not all 1911s are made alike. Not only are their quality differences, but feature differences. Some you may or may not know that you do or don't want. I have learned that I like most Springfields (loaded model and up) as they have the reliability, customer service, and features that I like (including a series 70 style trigger) and they don't cost a fortune. What I am trying to say to research first.

Over rated? Maybe for some. But if the gun works for what you want, I wouldn't consider it to be over rated. I have shot several P220s and like them, but I still prefer a good 1911.

228 all the way. The 229 wishes it could grow up to be the 228.

I know it. The 228 feels so good in my hands it should be criminal.

A Sig 228 may be the first gun that will get me to stop carrying my Glocks... But who knows?

The first time I held a G23 (after I'd looked at probably 15 other firearms) it was magical. The first time I shot one I knew I'd found a lifelong partner. I didn't recapture that feeling again until about six months ago when I held a Sig 228. A guy I know let me shoot his and I was just as (if not a little more) accurate with the 228 as I am with my G23/G19.

I have strange hands in that my palms are very average sized but my fingers are about 15% shorter than they "should" be... So finding a firearm with a superb grip can be a challenge. I like Glocks (all models) and every Sig I've ever held, even the full-size models... But HK for instance, doesn't feel right at all. Some of that is ergonomics but slide stop/release, magazine release, etc. are all factors.

Same thing goes with 1911s. They're really hit or miss for me. I've fired several and have been accurate with them, but I'd really have to play around before I decided which I'd buy.

My "handgun wish list" is in this order:

1. Sig 228 (or maybe 229DAK)
2. Glock 26 or Kahr K9 (for deep concealment)
3. 1911
4. Smith and Wesson 686

If we ever manage to find a time when our schedules mesh and can get some shooting in, I'll break out some SIGs in .45.

For deep concealment, you want a Kahr PM9. I *might* buy one soon, even though the triggers suck.

Can't help you on 1911s or revolvers, don't shoot either.

Did I put K9?! I meant PM9. I was browsing their website yesterday and must have crossed a wire somewhere. :faint:

But yes, we most definitely need to get the lead out soon.

How do you like the G30? Carrying it yet? Or does it need a mandatory round count before you trust it?

I haven't shot it yet. I no sooner picked it up from Eric on Saturday and had to return to MI Sunday. It will be this weekend before I get any range time. It will need to have 1000 rds through it before it could be considered as a carry gun. A really like my G17 and I'm hesistant to change something that works.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep it yet. I'm going to use it for a platform to .45 Super, see what happens. It *might* get flipped next month to free up funds for other projects (investments), along with a Mauser and a bunch of surplus ammo and maybe the SIG 245.

I can't justify having funds wrapped up in stuff I don't shoot and/or don't like. Hopefully the G30 will impress me.

As for my Subie. I have a Glock 21 with an Oberland Arms longslide and KKM 6" barrel I use for shooting .45 Super on occasion. So far I worked up a 230gr. load to 1200fps out of the 6" barrel. I have reliability issues with it though. Something with the faster slide speed and heavier recoil spring makes it want to nose dive jam a lot. When I was running the stock slide with the 6" barrel, I was running a 24# spring and it was still chucking the brass into next week. I origianally ran like a 20# spring and was ejecting so hard the case mouths are being flatted from hitting the side of the slide on the way out and the case rims were being ripped apart by the extractor. I still have about 450 new Starline .45 Super cases laying around somewhere.

In all, .45 Super was fun for playing around with, but it wasn't reliable enough for me to shoot a bowling pin match with, much less trust my life to it.

Stock that G30 should be plenty reliable. I never had an issue with it shooting everything from my handloads to any type of JHP I tried.

I'm glad to see the grip extension. Does anyone on here shoot .45 ACP without it?

A G26 is alright without one, a G27 is too "snappy" for me... But a G30? Seems pretty harsh for only having two fingers on the gun!

Even with a G26 I'll get the grip extension. I don't like that feeling of having my pinky hanging in mid-air.

One of my grips with the PM9 is the horrible trigger and only being able to get two fingers on it.

That's a gun that gets carried more than shot, I like to shoot my guns, A LOT.
