Hey guys I am new to the Desert Eagle thread here on GLOCK TALK. But not new to Desert Eagles. Thought I would start a thread on what you guys are feeding your DE's and what ammo seems to function the best. I purchased my DE in Matte Black it's a MK XIX in .44 mag. I also purchased the 50 AE barrel and magazine for it as a package deal. To be honest I have not taken her out as much as I wanted to but that is changing for me now that I have joined a private club with a great handgun range where it seems like you have it to yourself pretty much every time I decide to go shoot. So I plan on really getting acquainted with my DE like I should have years ago. I know that DE has their approved list of ammo but what have you guys tried with favorable results. I plan on stocking up on .44 MAG and 50AE as money is available.I scored on small lot of SAMSON ULTRA 50AE ammo. I read that they have stopped manufacturing this ammo in 2006 so I feel lucky to have found some. As for new manufactured 50AE ammunition which a local store had on hand for #29.95 per box of 20 I purchased some of the NEW MAGNUM RESEARCH brand 300 Gr. XTP / HP # DEP50HP/XTP300 As soon as I try it out I will post some performance results. Because of the cost of new manufactured ammo I also may consider hand loading too. Anyway it's good to be here. I handload .44mag, no factory ammo, and stay in the 210gr to 240gr range since there's nothing here that needs heavier bullets. W296, N110 and AA #9 all work fine, but I find the 6" DE chrono velocities are about 100fps less than a 6.5" M629 Classic.

I'm going to re-chrono some 240gr XTPs, W296/N110 in the DE and two M29s, 6.5"/4", M629/6.5" and see how it plays out. :)

Feeding and accuracy with Gold Dots, Sierra JHC, Silver Tips and XTPs has been very good to excellent.

MY DE is chambered in .44 mag.

Don't know as I have ever put a factory round down my DE 'cept for a few Black Talon's.

When in Maine, as a guide,I used Hornady 265's and 300 XTP's. The XTP's would penetrate very well and have killed its fair share of moose, deer, and black bear.

My powder of choice was/is Hodgdon 110. Have tried 296 and 2400 but came back to the 110.

For bullets,I really don't have an application for a bullet that weights less than 240grs unless it is fully copper or brass in makeup. Some of the Barnes are appealing but keep going back to the old standby.

Whatever you decide to load.....load hot. The DE's hate wimpy loads and/or limp wristing. -----pruhdlr
