I want to make my own knock down targets to practice on,and would like to know what grade steel is used for them. Also would it be the same to use .22lr with also. I imagine they are 1/4 also right?

As I recall most use T1 armored steel.

Our range uses 3/8" A36 for all our poppers and plates but we do not allow jacketed or plated bullets to be used.

3/8" T1 will take a beaten from jacketed rounds up to 44 Mag.

If you want a rifle plate (and have enough money) 3/8" AR500 will stop 30-06 AP rounds with only a small dimple.
