I just bought a g17 mag and A&G extension. It doesn't seem to fit very flush on my G26. Do any of you modify the extension to get it to fit better?

Hey... I know this comes a few months late but I just got one of the A&G extensions for a 19 magazine to use as my spare mag in my 26. The fit was terrible. I don't see why A&G or anyone else can't make a proper fitting extension. Molding plastic isn't a high tech process anymore. I have seen kids toys with better fitted parts. And for what they charge, how about making an attempt to put on some checkering like the Pearce extensions have. The surface finish is cheap looking as well. Mine had extra flashing and casting "nibs" that should have been completely removed before packaging. Anyway, to answer your question...Yes... I modified mine to fit better. The extension doesn't fit right in general but if you have a "butt" plug it has further fit issues. Plus the screw is installed on an angle which causes the extensions to climb up the mag at an angle as you tighten it.
My fix was a little careful filing on the surface that sits against the plug and a small shim between the inside surface of the extension and the mag on the side opposite the screw (the front) to prevent the thing from positioning itself on an angle when the screw is tightened. I made the shim from a thin piece of black plastic that was part of a casette tape case. The finished job looks just like the one in then A&G ad pictures but it shouldn't take the customer an hour to achieve that. Many of the ones you see on the forum are installed by the owner just sliding the extension all the way down to the floor plate but you end up with a large gap between the end of the 26 grip and the A&G. The correct way is to slide it up the mag about 1/8" so the gap is minimized. To do that and not have it look crooked you may need the shim as I did. Too bad we have to go through all that nonsense.

While I'm on a rant here... :rant:why do the new Pearce #2733 extensions advertised as +2 (in 9mm) extensions only give you +1 ??? Yes, mine is installed correctly. I have two... both fit 11 1/2 rounds... even with the Glock loader. Nice looking item but It should fit 12 from day one. They tell me I need to run more rounds through the gun to break in the spring. This isn't a spring tension issue. I pushed on the loader until I thought the bullet case was going to get dented. There is no physical room for the 12th round! I wish the after market folks would strive for PERFECTION as well. I'm done now...:embarassed:

that is weird guys. I have about 8 of the 20/21 adapters that I use on my 29/30 and they fit perfectly. The only issue is not to over tighten the screw or it will crack the mag. I have been using them ever since they came out and they fit as good as they could. If they were textured they would look factory like the S&W.
