View Full Version : My first HK USP
I own lots of Glocks, HK P7s, and Walther P99s. I have never owned an HK USP. The new internal lock sort of kept me away from buying one. Well, I finally caved, and bought one, specifically an HK USP45 Compact in all-black with Meprolight night sights NIB for $699 plus $20 shipping. I picked it up from my dealer yesterday (I ordered it in early May). I plan to shoot it soon. I did shoot one of these earlier this month, which was one owned by a friend's wife. I liked it.
My Sigs and HK's make me look at my Glock funny now. I love the G22 and will never part with it but variety is the spice of life.
You will really enjoy your USP, Ken!
Ken, the USP 45c, is at the top of my next gun to purchase list. Please post a range report. Thanks!
can't wait for your range report

Lunde:
I guess i am going the other way..i just sold my
last USPc and bought a G-23...the USps are nice
but 'bulky' for carry and the finish though durable
is not as durable as the Glock.
That said my P7M8's are my primary carry...there
is no substitute.
I sold a glock 21c with 3 high caps to get my H&K usp tactical. Although I miss the 21c from time to time I love my new tactical.

haven't heard many good things about the usp's. i too am interested in your range report. don't let the $700 plus down the hole influence you!;f i would never pay that much for a pistol.;P
It looks like Wednesday will be the first range session with my new USP.
Well, I took my HK USP45 Compact to the range today, and put 180 rounds through it (100 230gr FMJ, fifty 230gr Hydra-Shoks, and 30 Triton 230gr +P). Not a single malfunction, and it was shooting dead-on. It handles well, even the +P loads. I like it a lot.
I also toted along my hard-chromed HK P7 PSP (just back from HK), one of my G33s, and my Sig P239.
Dr Lunde, Do you prefer the HK45 over the G21? Pro's, Con's?
regards
It would be nice to read your thoughts, perhaps a comparative analysis around the USPC and other compact 45s.
The following is a good review of compact .45 Auto pistols: http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/review/4x45_1.htm
It consists of many pages. You need to click on a link at the bottom of each page to go to the next one.
Do I like the HK USP45 Compact more than .45 Auto Glocks? I haven't shot the USP enough to make such a determination. I find both to be comparable, and both seem to be damn fine weapons.
Dr. Lunde, that was a very informative web site, with a nice comparative analysis. The G30, G29 and the USPc 45 are the current finalists for my next gun purchase. After you shoot the USPc some more I'd be interested in your subjective evaluation.
I have a G30, two G29s, and of course the HK USP45 Compact. My favorite among them is the G29. That's why I have two of them. While I enjoy .45 Auto, I prefer 10mm when available. (Similarly, I prefer .357 Sig over .40 Auto, but enjoy .40 Auto. My favorite .40 Auto is the Walther P99.) That's simply my preference. But, between the G30 and HK USP45 Compact, I haven't made up my mind. I am keeping both regardless. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. It's also fair to compare the G36 with both. I also have a G36.
I'm leaning towards the 29 because I have a regular real-world application for the 10mm: bears in my back yard. I have a place in N. Idaho and encounter bears on a regular basis, but don't want to open carry my 41 or 44 mags all the time. I think the 29 would be an excellent choice for back yard all the time carry. My only concern has to do with the ejection problems that seem to plague a cetain percentage of them.
In that case, I would strongly recommend a G20. A G20 isn't that heavy and not overly large, when compared to similar autos. It can be concealed without much effort, and has a full grip for shooting comfort. Between the G29 and G20, I favor the G20.
