Anyone use the Taurus 85? What are your likes/dislikes?
Thanks for your input.

I've had a few over the years:

85CH stainless

85TT total titainium

Both were good guns and relaible, accurate.
Both loosened up with use- the TT needed the newer front ball detent replaced as it was worn smooth from use- has to be sent back to factory (lame)
The CH wasn't +P rated (earlier version) and I did run some hot stuff thru it.

Overall IMO they are good buys, but inspect first as Taurus QC is spotty compared to S@W and they won't likely hold up over time like the Smiths do...at least that's been my experience.

Had a stainless steel Taurus Model 85 I bought new back in 1986. It was an excellent value, sighted for 158gr+P LSWCHP, well made, and shot to point of aim.

I've had a 85ch that is +p rated since 96 or 97. Never had any problems of any kind. I have about 4000 rds through it but most of it was non +p. It is sill solid an no signs of throat erosion.

I like it and the Ruger SP101 better because of the transfer bar firing system over the hammer mounted firing pin of the S&W.The trigger action may not be as smooth as the smith's but my 85 is probably as smooth as the S&W 686 I had several years ago.It is a pretty sweet little snubby.

Just bought a Taurus 85 Ultra Light .38 about a month ago. So far I love it! I've only had 100 rounds through it so far, but accuray is pretty good. Shoots nice groups on an IDPA target. For defense I have it stoked with Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135gr. I did take the factory rubber grips off and put a set of Hogue on, and even though they are a bit bigger, I've noticed the recoil isn't as bad. I bought an Uncle Mike's pocket holster... I can barely feel it's there! Now I'm looking into trying out the reloading thing and using my Taurus as the test gun. Wish me luck!

I bought one in 1992. It was blued and had the hammer. I could hit gallon water jugs out to 100 yard with it. It got cruddy fast, after 100 rounds, and had to be clean and lubed. But after about 1000 rounds. I it never felt gritty and was a nice wheelie.

Its rated as standard pressures only, but I run some +p through it (GD 135gr) to see how it liked them. It did, POA at 7 and 10 yards., could cover the spread (quick off hand shooting) with you palm. It rides with me when I go places I don't want to put on the holster and G38. I have a CLIPDRAW on it.

The only problems I ever had with Taurus is their new line of autos. Their wheelies have been top of the line for me.

I'm quite fond of my 85 which I bought a few years ago (it's +P rated). It's steel, so it's heavier than my 638, but it still sees CCW use from time to time.

It shoots to POA & has never failed me. In mine, the trigger pull may actually be better than my 638.

Picked one up Nov/2007, my first "real" snub. Although my SP101 sorta falls
into the category, I don't think of it as a snub - sort of "compact revolver"
.

Built in 1999, got it for about $ 240 and definitely carried little (if ever) shot little. I try and practice with it every couple of weeks, have about 800 rds (mainly +P) though it with no problems. I probably carry it more than any other piece.

Depending on the ammo (my carry ammo is the BB "standard pressure" .38 round it can be pretty damn accurate.

I've carried a model 85 stainless for off duty and back up since 1993. I love it!

I have a 605. It's the 357 version. Handles 357 great. I did change the grips to the Taurus Combat Grips. I can hit stationary Clay Pigeons at 50'. Not bad for a 2".

Have them on my 85 as well...and a set on my SP 101. Great for both range and concealment work.

I have a regular M85 SS with a hammer.... I like it, it feels tight, it shoots well I have had it for a little while...probalby 500 rounds through it now.... I shoot it at what I consider realistic CCW range... 3yrds, 5yds, 7 yds, and 10 yds.....anything past 30 ft and I feel like I should have tried to get away (from a legal stand point)....just me though..... I can put them in the X ring all day no problems and so can my lady....I would say she will be getting one soon as well......great bang for the buck....
