$550 with a booster. It's gonna be primarilly for my HK USP Tactical. Gonna get my Beretta 96 threaded for it as well. I've got three 1911's, so I'll be doing something with those eventually, too.

The suppressor is made by a local guy who does great work. I got to pick a serial number, so that's kinda cool. Number will be Sterling-1. My name is Sterling, so it kinda fits. If I ever sell, which is doubtful, well, sterling is a word, too, so it could kinda work. He also made me a .22 suppressor, but my Form 4 still hasn't gotten approved, so I don't actually have it yet.

Got my trust set up, so hopefully the papers will go in the mail before the weekend. To heck with fingerprint cards, photos, and CLEO sign-offs.

EDIT: Hmm -- double-tap. Sorry!

Can you tell me about setting up the trust and what it entailed?

I'm seriously considering a can in 9mm and 5.56 and would rather do the trust than have to beg for signatures.

I used Quicken Willmaker. A nice GTer hooked me up.

It's simple, really. Just run the program, fill in the blanks, and print it out.

Some states require that you register your Trust w/ the county (and/or state) and some don't require anything but a Notery. Send in a copy of your Trust w/ a copy of what is held in the Trust, and you're good to go.

Is there anyway to transfer NFA items you already own under your name to a trust for future NFA purchases? I have a few suppressors and SBR's that were registered via LE signature, fingerprints, and pics and would like to set up a trust for future purchases but want the rest of my items to be included under the trust. Would I have to go through the whole process for each item and pay another $200 transfer per item? I just started looking into this and have not contacted the ATF yet. Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks, Brandon.

EDIT --

You'd have to pay a $200 for each item to transfer it from you to your legal trust.

Thanks USMCSilver,
That was what I was hoping for.
Thanks, Brandon.

All you would do is in the part that lists the things that the trust holds, is list the current NFA items you own. No extra stamps needed. This way, if you die, and you leave your wife as the one to take over the trust, she can take possession as the new trustee tax-free.

Are you sure? I was under the impression you would have to tranfer them to the trust and pay for the transfer.

For example, my suppressor now is registered to the jhall and jhalls wife revocable living trust. And both of us are the founders of the trust so either of us may possess the item.

But if I registered the suppressor to just Jhall, I don't see how any one else could possess it. You might have it listed as trust owned property in your trust paperwork, but you tax stamp is still only going to say jhall is allowed to possess it.

I may be way off base though, maybe you read up on it more than I have already!

What I have read is that you don't want a joint trust. I don't recall why, but that's what I read.

I'd have to go back to the thread on ARF, but someone explained it quite well there.

In a non-joint trust, if I die, the possessions of the trust then become the possessions of the new trustee. The trust own's the NFA items, not you. So...well, you get it?

My joint trust is set up the same. If either of us dies then the trust property still belongs to the other party. If they die its left to someone else.

I'd be interested in reading the thread if you find it. I never have any luck finding stuff on arfcom..

Tagged, but would it be worth all that trouble for a suppressor? I admit I am intrigued I have a G21 that I have been thinking about getting one for.

I hate to do this to you, but here's 44 pages of info. I made it to 27 or so; look at the bright side -- it's somewhere before page 27...

Actually, I hope it was that thread I read it in. If not, well, look at the bright side, you'll learn more than you want to about setting up a trust.

Trouble? What, fill in the blanks on a $40 program? More trouble than fingerprint cards, fees, passport photos, fees, and trying to get the Sherriff to sign off on an NFA form without thinking you're wacko? Sorry, but I fail to see the "trouble".

A trust is not anywhere near as difficult as setting up a subchapter S or full blown C corp, or a LLC.

This answer is not at all true. If you have NFA items registered to you, you would need to transfer them to the trust just like you were transfering them to another person. You WOULD have to pay the tax.

You are correct. I did, indeed, screw the pooch on that one.

Sorry for the misinformation.

Personal NFA items would goto his heir tax free upon his death trust or not. So make sure at least one child can own firearms.

How well does the can work? I'm eager to hear the range report.

I put a few rounds though it w/ the HK, have not tried the Beretta yet.

Functioned fine with crap ammo and needless to say, it's much more quiet than an unsuppressed weapon. Duh. I'd say it's a little more quiet than an unsuppressed .22 but of course the pitch is different.

Really hard to describe, ya know?

What do you think of the .22 Can? I am in the market for one for my P22...

It is awesome! Shot it beside a Tac-65 and some Gemtech and this thing seems more quiet.

Outta my bolt gun -- Ruger 77/22 -- all you hear is the firing pin fall then the "thud" from the round's impact. It's a good can, and for the $260 I paid, it's well worth it!

Imagine lighly thumping a piece of paper. That's the best way to mimic it.

Would you mind telling me the price tag? Would you recommend that can over an OutbackII or a Mite?

thanks,

I've read some pretty bad stuff about the Mite. Could be why they are only $200.

Like I said above, the .22 can was $260, IIRC. My .45 can was $550 w/ the booster. $50 for the adapter for the Beretta .40.

The reason I chose what I did was because I like the guy who made the can. He does great work and has his head on right. He's friendly and will do anything in his power to get you what you want. He'll also stand behind his product. I'm sure the other supperssor companies will, too, but they're HUGE and IMHO, small company (he and his wife) customer service goes a long way.

If you want his info, well, he's just started his new website since his business name change. He changed b/c he seperated from his partner.

Here's his growing website: http://www.innovativearms.com/

If you drop him an e-mail, tell him Sterling sent you. (And by NO WAY do I get any sort of kickback. I just want to make that clear.)

Thanks bro! And I'd have no problem if you got a kick-back anyways, I apreciate the help!

If you really want to get a quiet gun that you can shoot a lot then get a .22 can. I got my p22/tac65 with $200 stamp for about $700. When you take into account what ammo cost, and how much 9mm and the other rounds cost the .22 is the best deal. Often times you can get another gun/can/tax stamp for the price of just a larger caliber can.

Yup, that's why I have this. Along w/ a P22 and two threaded 10/22's:
