Range report from an average Joe…
I read the reports from all the big name gun gurus and I can’t help but believe that the gun press is about as biased and corrupt as every other press. That is to say, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to find out that a gun sent in for review was careful packed in ‘C’ notes to ensure that it arrived safe from harm (nudge, nudge) and got a “fair” review.
That’s why I decided to give my thoughts on my first shooting experience with my new Glock 30 for any of those who are thinking of getting one.
Three words to start – OH MY GOD!!!!!!
Let’s start with recoil. That seems to be a concern of those who’d possibly purchase this gun – I know that it was a concern of mine. I’ll compare it to a Glock 27 and a Colt 1911 .45.
For those of you who’ve shot a 27 (.40 caliber), you’ll note that it has a definite punch to it. Perhaps “snap” is a better word. Though controllable, it’s snap and muzzle flip will require a bit of time to get used to.
Those of you who’ve shot a 1911 have probably fallen in love with the “push” of the big 45. It’s like you can feel the gun actually cycle in your hand. I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s actually very, very cool.
The 30 is somewhere in the middle, in my opinion. It has a little more snap than a big .45 (less than the .40), but it’s not bad at all. You still get that “push”, though not as much as with a big 1911.
Muzzle flip? Controllable. Definitely controllable. Less than my 27 and probably less than the much heavier 1911, actually.
Overall, this would be the gun Goldilocks would pick. It has enough recoil to let you know you’re shooting something, but not so much that it’ll get in the way of you getting accurate follow-up shots.
Accuracy.
You’ve heard peeps on here state that this gun is accurate. Again, OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! It EASILY out-shoots my 1911. Actually, three words come to mind – One Ragged Hole. That’s what you’ll end up with shooting offhand at a reasonable distance – one ragged hole. Of course, if you’re like me, you might end up screwing that up with the last shots because at this point I was laughing out loud at how well this little bugger shoots!!!
If you can out-shoot this pistol, you need to be making a living shooting. I don’t know what, but you’re probably needed somewhere. Keep in mind that this gun is not made for such accuracy, mind you. It’s a compact carry piece. It’s WAY MORE accurate than needed for this role.
Try one for yourself and I honestly believe that you will be in shock at what this pistol can do.
Reliability.
In firing 200 rounds, it jammed 5 times. JUST KIDDING!!!! Hehehe. No, this is a typical Glock. Ate everything I fed it and didn’t complain once. I think I’ll put it in the gun bag next to my overpriced Colt 1911 and maybe its reliability will rub off.
The 1911 is touchy. If you even THINK about limp wristing, it’ll punish you with a jam. The Glock says “Hey, no prob, let’s keep shooting” and fires on.
My Colt is beautiful. Nice stainless finish and everything. Beautiful. Wouldn’t trust my life to it. No way. God forbid I’ll ever be in such a situation, but if I ever NEED a gun to save my life, I’ll reach for my Glock. I know my Glock will be there for me when I need it most. The Colt looks great. The Glock shoots great. Therefore, I LOOK at my Colt, and when it’s time to carry for self-defense, I grab my Glock.
Conclusion…
10 rounds of .45 ammo. Small frame (bigger than the 26 & 27, but not by much). Pretty lightweight. Did I say TEN rounds of .45 ammo???? Comfortable to shoot. Accurate. Reliable. Affordable. Made by Glock.
Good Lord, what are you waiting for??? GO OUT AND BUY ONE!!!!
One warning, though – you may never want to shoot your other guns again. Don’t think I’m serious? Try it for yourself and see what the other members of the “Big Dawgs Club” are always grinning about.
