Any good? Saw it on sale in Wally World, was thinking of picking it up, but, y'know...

I know it's not going to be "Death Wish IIX, The Reckoning" or anything like that, but is it worth owning like Training Day or Shooter is worth owning? Or how about this; is it worth the $19.96 to own?

And please: No Spoilers as neither I or Mrs. Arquebus have seen it yet.

I wouldn't buy it but it was worth watching for free.

Rental maybe.

It's a decent movie. It's Death Wish with a female and updated for the '90s-'00s but it's a decent time waster.

"Isn’t it possible that we all have that bit of insanity in us? That’s why I’m for gun control. Absolutely… I don’t believe that people should have access to life-or-death situations at any emotional time in their life. I don’t really believe that a human being who feels [things] should have the option at their fingertips.”

Good post. Between that and "Panic Room", I'm a little reluctant to part with a 20. She's a strong actress, and I'm more than a little warm for her, even though she plays for the other team, but, y'know...

Interesting movie. The way she played a woman whose world is shattered and how she eventually becomes something she hates in order to be able to go on with her life. Though in the end she does seem to come to grips with who she has become.
I thought the ending a little too convienent though. I didn't believe the detective was true to his character. At least not the way Foster set him up all through the film to have him "flip" like that.

What Gun is she using? In the ad's it looks like a Kahr, but I didn't see the film.

A Kahr K9. No word on the type of ammo though. She paid $1000 for it with a box of ammo.

Is she in Cali? That might explain the gouging.

I thought it takes place in NYC - so I guess in real life she'd be in the ghetto buying one from some 13 year old drug hustler.

Probably would have ended up with a Tokerov.

LOL. No, she is in NYC. She didn't buy the gun legally. She still paid too much though.
While I was watching the movie and she gets denied the gun in a legal gun shop, I figured "Oh boy, they are going to have her go to some gun show, and buy a gun with no background check". But they didn't.
A missed opportunity for the anti gun crowd to drive home the point of the effects of the infamous "gun show loophole".
I guess we should be thankful for small favors, eh?

I'm totally shocked to find out that Jodie Foster believes Roe v Wade should be overturned!

Just saw it tonight. Rented it for a buck. I would recommend it, but wouldn't buy the DVD.

I watched it online.

It is a remake of Deathwish as was stated. Decent plot as updated since the original but I thought Jodie Foster's acting was rather poor in this movie, as if she was just going through the motions.

Maybe it was me, and the fact that Jodie came out of the closet as a lesbian recently but, she looked rather dykey in the movie. Maybe she would been more believable in it if her boyfriend in the movie would have been a girl instead.

never buy videos from walmart, they are evil..

always hit the used bin at blockbusters, you could have picked that video up for $3-$4 bucks...

I wouldn't call $20 on sale. A DVD isn't really on sale until its around $12 or less. No I can't say that I'd buy it.

Isn't she also a supporter of gun control groups?

With all of the recommendations, I’ll have to see it now. I have been holding off because of her hypocrisy. When the movie came out, I read all of her anti-gun quotes but could not help but notice that on the movie poster she is looking hot and holding a gun. Foster has enough juice as an actress to be able to control her image in the marketing of the movie. She had to have consented to that photo being used. It was as if she is saying; people shouldn’t have guns . . . unless it helps sell my movie.

If it's not a plot spoiler, could elaborate why she is denied a handgun purchase? I had heard it was difficult to legally CCW in New York, but I didn't think buying a handgun was particularly hard. Or does NY have some waiting period she did not want to wait for?

She didn't want to wait to get approved for a purchase permit, waiting period, etc.

Foster has looked dykey for the last 20 some years. Recently, she publicly acknowledged her sexuality, but she has never gone out of her way to hide it.

It was a fair movie. They tried to make her like a female Paul Kirksey(Death Wish)but there can be only one,and Jodi Foster didn't even come close with her little Kahr 9mm:whistling:

I thought the Kahr a better choice than the .32 Revolver Paul Kersey used in Death Wish.

It was a decent movie, but not worth owning IMHO. I put it in about the same category as "I am Legend." Good to watch once, but not beyond that. I actually found "I am Legend" more believeable....and that's saying something.

I paid $3.99 to watch in on PPV. It was mildly entertaining. It reinforced my current practice of carrying or having a gun available 24/7. I didn't really see any anti-gun message in it - quite the opposite really.

IMHO given the context of when this was made as opposed to Death Wish as well as Jodie's public sentiments about guns, I thought it bordered on anti-gun propaganda, since it portrayed the main gun owning character as a shoot first, ask questions later vigilante who skirted the law (even as stupid as the NYC laws are).

Paul Kersey only used his .32 to get started:supergrin:

I thought it had a very strong pro-gun message. It demonstrated how much evil was out there and how it can come on you in a moment. If I didn't carry and saw the shooting situations she was in I would want to start. Should send shivers down the spine of the sheeple watching it, if that is possible.

Still, Jodie is a total hyprocrite. Outspoken gun control advocate and shoots people like Dirty Harry.

Oh no, that's okay. The life or death option is fine if all we're talking about is a fetus, but if instead it is a dirtbag who broke into your house, raped your wife, and wants to kill you, well....I mean who are you to decide who lives and who dies?
