I have been carrying a copy of my permit for 3 years in my wallet. Well, it has been the same size as the original, just a copy so the original one would not get ruined (as this one finally has). I was told this was okay, and have had a state trooper look at it and not say a word. I'm wondering if I can make another copy, but credit card size and have it laminated? I just printed one out and everything is nice, bold and legible. Do you see this as being a problem?

I am a NR and thus don't know exactly who you'd ask for a definitive answer, but I do have two suggestions:
- First go to the ProGun-NH website and send an Email to Sam Cohen requesting an official answer to this question. Sam's got the contacts and I've seen this problem mentioned a fair amount on various forums in the past. http://www.pgnh.org/
- Second, suggest to Sam that they lobby for a law change to make it credit card sized like the NR Permit is.
Good luck and please report back what info you obtain for others. Someday I hope to be a NH Resident myself.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll do that right now. Never knew the NR was credit card sized...
I'm on my 3rd NH NR Permit and all of them have been credit card sized. First one was paper and last 2 were plastic. Can only guess that since local PDs issue Resident Permits and the card-making machines are expensive (~$2-3K typically) they don't want to mandate that every city/town buy one, thus you are stuck with paper (large size).
Good luck.

Super fast response, definitely going to join PGNH!! $5?!?! Wish I knew about it before. Either way, here's the response I got from Sam at PGNH...
First, I am not a lawyer, and both Pro-Gun New Hampshire and I disclaim
liability for any actions you may take or not take as a result of reading
this email message. That said, I would point out that since the state laws
on carry licensing (RSA 159:4 and 159:6) do not address the issue you
raised, it could be argued that a photo-reduced copy of the original license
is adequate. On the other hand, there are laminating materials thin enough
to make the original license foldable in quarters after lamination; that's
what I did with mine.
Sam Cohen, Director
I have my NH permit and I believe there are no regulations regaurding the permit size or lamination. The police department in my town made a reduced size copy for me just to put in my wallet. I keep another copy with my car registration and the original is at home in my gun safe. :)
if you need a thin and foldable laminiation, you could always use clear packaging tape... it's not a nice looking as one that requires a machine, but it gets the job done, and you won't have to worry about trying to convince anyone that your shrunk down permit is legit.
