I also posted this on GNG... Natchez Shooters Supply is fine company that I've done lots of business with in the past, no hesitation in recommending them. They've got a sale going on for the above listed ammo which is the same as the Lake City 55 FMJ NATO headstamped stuff, and at $.34 a round ain't bad.
Anyhow, I've heard lots of folks complaining about the lack of .223 available, (the good stuff, at least), and thought I'd share.

I see it is now labeled "tactical" and comes in different box. Is any different as the older stuff that came in the brown box labeled XM193?

I'd assume it is the exact same stuff.

My case just arrived today. Looks like the same stuff as in the brown box.
I bought 400 rds of the federal ammo from natchez and after firing 40 rds 10 failed to fire the 1st time through and 4 of the 10 would not fire at all!:crying:

No problem here in Florida.I faintly remember, once upon a time, Natchez had companies in these states that either were branch-offs from the original company, or folks that they had a no-competition agreement with, or something like that; not sure which. It has been like that for a long time, though (maybe 15-20 years?), and I may not be recalling it correctly.

RRA ar-15. Primer strikes are good and other ammo works fine.

Not criticism, just want to help, I started the thread, after all.
Do you have a titanium firing pin? You shouldn't, as they can "burn", and the almost immeasurable lock time gain is offset by the problems caused by misfires.
Also, is your bolt good and clean? I mean really clean? Build up can cause the pin to bind/slow down, resulting in light hits.
Like I said, just trying to help. The primers might be a little "hard" because they may have been initially loaded for an M249 SAW-type weapon with a heavier action.
Sorry you're having problems... :dunno:

Thanks DJ. I was always curious about that. I've ordered from Natchez SS since way before I had internet.
CDNN is selling the exact same thing, Federal XM193, for $7.69/20rd box, $189/case of 500rds. Shipping is UPS Ground, $9.99 any amount ordered. Just got their latest catalog today. Call them up, 800-588-9500.
I'm not in any way affiliated with them, except being a satisfied customer.:wavey:

Your correct, I called to ask why and that is what they told me. Sounds stupid, just sneak one through they won't find out, he still said no!
I appreciate the help. The gun is actually new and the bolt clean. I will try another box and then contact Federal with the lot # to see if they know anything. By the way I fired the rounds in your neck of the woods at the club there.

Back in the days that I used the catalogs, I think Natchez had a "sister company" called Spartan Supply, or Spartan Shooter's Supply, something like that. I don't know if they still exist, but the paper catalogs for the two companies looked alike. I'm remembering something from the 1980's probably.

I think that one was in Tennessee.
