Wanting to get a light mount to put a TLR-1 on a stock Colt A2 gov't. I've been looking at bayonet mounts, but got to thinking that they are going to get really, really hot being clamped to the mount and obviously I don't want the light getting fried.
I do not want to replace the A2 handguards and don't like the idea of putting a mount on them. Are the bayo mounts alright, are there any other mounting solutions I'm unaware of?

I've got a UTG quad rail with vertical grip on mine. I use the TLR-1 light too, and have it mounted on the side so my weak hand thumb can operate it when I grip the vertical grip.
I have a bayonet mount, but it's really difficult to operate the light with it on.
Here's a link to the same handguards I have.

I don't know if this will help, but YHM makes a rail that attaches to the front sight.

I've heard some nice things from UTG owners. However, if you are using your weapon for anything other then just plinking, I'd recommend something else. For a little more money, you can buy one that was designed for battle.

Please explain what you mean. I've seen other aluminum guards at gun shows that were priced 2-3-4 times more than the UTG's, and didn't seem to be any better. I know there's different 'grades' of aluminum, but they're handguards, not an airplane.
They're sturdier than the ones that came on my AR, and also the Fobus ones I have.
Just because some 'Police Supply House' didn't sell them to me doesn't mean they're not quality made.
Shoot, someone could probably market 'Tactical Toilet Paper' and some dumass would buy it at 5 bucks a roll!

I'm going with a front sight mount on my carbine, because it can be readily accessed by the weak hand thumb, rather than messing with a pressure pad. It also puts the light in the same relative position as on my Beretta Storm carbine, and it won't interfere with a carry strap.
