I installed a set of the XS lights for a glock 19. Installation was very straight forward and installed like all the aftermarket sights.
The problem is I cant hit the broad side of a barn with them. I'm a very good shot with the stock Glock sights and with the factory night sights. But when I follow the instructions (put the big dot on the target and dot the I) I'm shooting very low at all distances. To make sure it wasn't me I let my friend (who also owns a g19 and uses it as a carry weapon) and he was having the exact same issue.
I compensated until I was hitting bullseye but I had to shoot so far above what I was aiming at that it was almost comedic. There is no way they were intended to shoot like that because I couldn't even see the center of the target.
To double check, I switched guns with my friend who was at the range with me and with his stock glock sights I had a very nice/tight group exactly where I wanted. This was at multiple ranges from very close to about 30 yards.
What am I doing wrong? Or did I just buy a problematic set of sights?

make sure you are dotting the I with the whole sight and not the center dot.

Thats exactly what I was doing, like I said I had a second person shoot it also. Still very low. I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried these sights?
I have em on my g19. never had a problem.
I do almost all my shooting inside 20 yards and for that they are fine.

Are you POSITIVE you have the correct sight picture?
Some new XS Big Dot shooters mistakenly line up the tops of the 'v' with the top of the dot. I know you say you aren't but if you are hitting low the front sight must be low in your sight picture some how.
Or you are jerking the trigger.

For some, they take alot of time and practice to really get the sight picture - but once you get it you'll like it - I've had mine for over a month - I regularly shoot about 1000 rounds a month and I still have a little trouble at 16.5 yards(max indoor range) doing tight groups, but inside that they're right on... it's all a matter of practice with them.
A couple of tricks that work for me that I got from some members on here - don't think to hard they're simple sights - anything over 7-8 yards start using the top edge of the sight(works for some including myself) - try looking through the sight, both eyes on the target using your peripheral to pick up the "i"...
It's probably not the sight, it's probably just you getting used to them... Hope I could help - good luck.
Not to thread jack but Im wanting to get some Big Dots for a G30
What's the difference between
XS 24/7 Express +1 Big Dot Night Fits 20,21,29,30,37
&
XS 24/7 Express Big Dot Night Sight Set +0 6.5 - Standard M/17-19, 22-28, 33-35, 37-39
I'm looking on Lone Wold FWIW
Yeah, I agree with MFriedhoff, it takes some getting use to. I've switched from Meprolight to XS on my 32 and like it a lot. XS's are good for fast aquisition in my opinion. I can bring up from a low ready and pop off two rounds center mass very quickly. My first 100 shots or so were low, so it does take some getting use to. I don't think my sight picture was correct at first. I took my CCW class a few days ago and my classmate used my 32 and was all over the plates at first. After a couple rounds though he was able to adjust and get em on target. Put some more rounds down range and see. XS sights are not for everybody, just light Mepros or Trijicons aren't.

I have a Glock 23 and shoot well with it with the basic Glock factory sights. I had some XS sights put on and I have not been able to hit 8" plates at 15 yds as I would be able to do otherwise. So after reading some of these posts I am really hoping it's only a matter of practice! I too have aimed quite high...but to be honest I don't know where I am hitting. I am going to set up a BIG target and shoot from a bench to see where I am shooting. The Glock armorer said he used a laser device and told me it was sighted in at 50 yds....maybe that is why some are hitting so low.

According to Dave Biggers from XS Sight Systems, the centers of both big and standard dots are the same height above the slide, 0.120. So, a gun with the smaller standard dot nestled into the "v" would necessarily shoot lower than the same gun with the larger big dot nestled into the "v."

That would be me then. I have the standard and went shooting today with a BIG target. At 7 and 11 yards I was shooting about 2-3" low. At 20 yds I aimed at the top of an 8" target and hit about 4-5" inches low. I like the sights though. I shot very nice groups...just low. Looks like more range practice for me!

Call XS Sight Systems and ask specifically about the proper sight picture for the standard dot. Let us know.

I talked to XS Sights and I was told the standard is aimed just like the big dot sight. I told the fellow (Dave, I think) about how I was shooting and some others here and he said it's a mind thing to want to line up sights as in the 3 dot. He said don't even use the rear sight and since my groups were good...shoot faster as long as I have good trigger control. He said going faster helps eliminate the mind thing to want to overthink what I am doing and want to line up sights again. Just plant the dot and shoot. He said he was giving a LE demo and the police there were getting head shots at 15 yds right rom the git go. He said it could be possible but not likely that I may need a different height rear sight. He said shoot more according to what he said and see if there is not an improvement first.

Wow, seems odd. First, you're told don't use the rear sight, then you're told maybe you need a different height rear sight. Thanks for your report. Please continue to let us know what your ongoing experience is.
I'm shooting a set of standards I installed on a G17 and I didn't seem to have any problem at all shooting them. I am mostly a fan of plain back Heinie sights, but so far XS rock. You do have to find a sight picture that works for you, but I seemed to resolve that in just a couple of magazines.

I must be missing something. The pictorial of sight pictures, above, indicates that one is to aim lower when shooting at targets farther away. Wouldn't you aim higher, if anything, to allow for the effects of gravity at greater distances [ie.-time in flight]?
We tried XS BD's on Judy's G19 and she never did get the hang of them. Her shooting improved immediately when we switched to Trijicons.
Guests we took shooting didn't take to them either, and shot poorly. One of those guest's--my older son's--shooting also improved at once with the switch to traditional 3-dot sights.
I was getting the hang of the XS's, even producing bull's-eyes at 30 feet routinely, and I found them great for center mass point and shoot drills! But I will say that switching from XS BD's to standard 3-dot sights, and back again, was a bit awkward... :freak:
Other than that, the sights are well made, with a pleasing night sight picture!

Well I took my G23 shooting again and I did like I was told by XS sights and fired without using the rear sights. I shot higher with no problem but had lousy groups. I am hoping just more practice is required. I am wondering if maybe different ammo would help. I am shooting 165gr., maybe 180gr will shoot higher? My 38 spl shoots higher with a heavier bullet and lower with a lighter one. 158gr vs 130gr.
I recently took a training class with tactical response.
I was using a G34 with newly installed XS Big dots 24/7. I am 61 years old and have worn progressively thicker glasses since I was a grade school kid. My eyes are still not great with progressive trifocals and no sights are easy for me to see sharply but my target shows I did OK even though I let a few get away during certain drills, hence the taped up holes.
XS sights are great in my opinion!

Not bad, I could never get used to them either and am back to Meps
Also the Crimson had to go, could not deal with the issue of catching the laser on racking the slide.
My trigger control practicing as well as a one day defensive shooting class, I have improved ten fold on accuracy. So much better gotta love it.
Bad guys beware, it would be bad juju for you. :tongueout:
