This stuff recently started showing up on the shelves of local liquor stores.
The price is right, and it tastes better than any bargain Vodka that I've ever tried.
Mixes well with OJ, Bloody Mary Mix, Ocean Spray, and several other liquids.
Have any of you tried this Vodka?
It beats the hell out of Smirnoff (sorry Yakov), and it's at least on par with Skyy, and not far from Absolut.

Never heard of it, but I prefer Stoli. Yummy & inexpensive.

Haven't tried it. I don't really like Vodka though, I'm a beer guy myself!
The first time I drank it I thought it was really rough.
But everyone else I know loves it...
So maybe I just caught a bad bottle or something.
I normally buy Stoli and if I'm on a budget I get Smirnoff.
Skyy and Absolut are way overrated IMHO.
I will try this again and let you know.

Stoli is much more expensive around here.
Don't like Vodka?
Vodka isn't meant for sippin' straight (like bourbon or whisky), Vodka is for mixin'.
Seriously, if you like a Bloody Mary, a Screwdriver, or other Vodka mixers, give this stuff a try. It ain't bad, and it will save you enough scratch for chips and salsa.
Around here Smirnoff runs $12.99 and Stoli is like $19.99
Svedka sits in at $15.99 or so.
And yeah, the Svedka just came out of nowhere! I'd never seen it before and one day half the vodka section of my local Meijer was Svedka.
Weird.

Around here Smirnoff is only an option if I'm broke, and Stoli is about the same as Skyy.
I loved Stolichnaya back in the eighties, when the cold war kept most commie wodkuhs from the US. But today I realize that others make decent wodkuh whether they're commies or not.
I gave it a try, and it ain't bad.
Of course, it's not premium Scotch, but $20 to have cheap mixers for a couple of weeks is a major plus for Svedka.
PS: WTF is a Meijer?

I won't argue with the $20 mixers.
Meijer is the large "superstore" chain around these parts... Think Super Wal-Mart, but carries better quality/slightly cheaper groceries. Meijer usually has good prices on booze too.
I typically go to Meijer for groceries and Wal-Mart for anything else. Meijer has terribly high prices on household items compared to Wally World.
We don't have CostCos around here.
Just Meijer, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.

That makes sense, then.
I moved from Louisiana to Texas.
In Louisiana we could buy a liter of whisky for $20 at the convenience store, where I now pay $25 or more for the same thing, at a liquor store (can only sell liquor at a liquor store or bar in Texas).

Svedka, new? Hell no. I don't know why y'all would have a sudden explosion.
It's alright, so is Absolut. I get Skyy though, my favorite.
Never cared to drop $50 on a Grey Goose, so I'll forego that pleasure. ;)
Meijer is like a Walmart, CJ. Maybe a midwest/east thing??

Svedka is OK. I sank a bottle with my sister lasr week while caring for my Dad.
Vodka is pretty much water and advertising. If'n yer gonna mix it, buy it cheap. If yer doin' it Rushin style, keep it in he freezer and shoot it. To me, Smirnoff burns- not unlike Stoli. My favorites are Reyka from Iceland and Korskinkova from Finland. Both are wheat-based and make for a smoother shot. Just my .01!

Never tried it...but FRIS vodka (pronounced freese) is the best I've ever had for an inexpensive brand. Beats Absolut for the money, hands down...

When a thread calls out a California Girl who rarely posts, I gotta assume her advice is worth considering.
Fris it is, then.

Svedka is alright, but anything is alright when your a cheap college kid who is used to Popov.
For cheap vodka I like Finlandia, otherwise I drink Grey Goose.
I need to make some vanilla extract, maybe Ill try Svedka.

Svedka has been around here for a lonnnng time. Bout 12.99 a bottle. It is pretty enjoyable. I NEVER drink wodkah straight. ACK! If Im drinking it I am having White Russians, Bloodies, or Screwdrivers. I will mix pretty much any vodka down to Gordons. Five O Clock is below what I will buy.
I actually have a funny wodkah story.
Last summer I got to my family's lake house late on a Friday night. I had a few friends with me of course. My family was already there, including my dad. Upon my arrival I decided to check the liquor stock pile. My dad doesnt drink but people are always leaving liquor at our house, sometimes some very high quality poop. I found a bottle of Grey Goose and got very excited. For some reason though, the bottle was full but the seal was broken. I found out my dad had put some smirnoff in a Grey Goose bottle just to mess with me! :crying::rofl:

Why thank you!! :embarassed:
Seriously though, it is worth a try. Although it is sometimes hard to find (at least around here) it is very smooth and if you put it in the freezer and get it really cold, it is awesome. And even if you don't, and prefer it at room temp.....it's all good!! And I mean GOOD!! :number1:
a vodka thread and no mention of the glory that is potato vodka?

It's been Svedka again tonight, and it's still good.
$15 for a liter, $10.99 for 750 ml., or $21 for 1.75 liters.
$5.99 for a gallon of Tropicana OJ, and it's turned out to be a pleasant evening of reading, buying, and posting on the web.
I haven't been able to find Fris, or Monopolowa, so I have to stick with a known element for now.
I can even get my wife to drink a screwdriver made with this stuff, and the only liquor drinks she's ever liked are fruity drinks like daiquiris.

svedka has a funny very grainy taste to it. Can't say I'm a fan.
Grey goose is yummy but comon... who can afford that??
Stoli is ok but again, has a very grainy taste to it, and for some reason gives me a massive headache the next day.
The hands down winner in my book goes to Ketel One. Great mixing, great sipping, no bad hangover.

I guess I like a grainy taste.
I love rice and other grains, so I guess that may explain some of my fondness for this brand.
