Final decision time.
I'm torn between the 16" Mid-length SS barrel here >>
http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=274&CFID=8986419&CFTOKEN=96788866
and the 16" Carbine Fluted Chrome-lined barrel here (THIS WILL SOON HAVE 1:7 RIFLING, which is what I will purchase) >>
http://www.yhm.net/store/barrels.html
I will be purchasing a Specter Free-float from YHM, and they offer free-installation, so it would be more convenient to have them mount the barrel and the forearm.
This rifle is intended to be a general-purpose rifle. Decent out to 200 yards or so, yet able to withstand South Florida in a post-Katrina type scenario.
I have a few questions for you lovely, brilliant people.
1. Is the Mid-length gas system substantially better than the carbine?
2. Will the cool-looking fluting result in a barrel that shoots 5MOA?
3. Is there a reason that people only seem to use SS barrels for competition and not SHTF-type scenarios? Are they heavier/delicate/too shiny or something?
Answer me these questions three and I swear won't post again until I am sharing pics of the completed build.
