I'm planning to replace my stock sights with Heinie's straight 8s. Being it will be an internet buy, I'm unable to go hands on, so I need your opinions.
Pistol is for duty cary. Which style will serve me better, Race cut or Regular? .

The difference is speed of acquisition vs accuracy, and this only during daylight. Race cuts will enable you to acquire your target quicker due to the larger opening. The regulars will give you greater accuracy because there's much less room for error in the sight picture. In low light situations, you'll just line the dots up, one over the other.
I would guess that since this is your duty weapon, your priority is going to be speed of acquisition, and most of your shootings, rare though they may be, will likely be close range so hitting your target is not going to be that difficult. So based on those assumptions, I would recommend the Race cuts.
Hope that helps.

Regular. While race cut sounds sexy, there is not really much, if any, benifit to them. I have sights with up to a .150 cut that I no longer use. With a cut this wide, you can waste a lot of time trying to get the front sight centered.
A stock Heinie slant pro is .125 wide, which is already a wide cut. I'm not sure about the straight 8's.

For me Im faster with a wider notch. I went from Mepro's to Warren Tactical (.150). I would go with the RC.

For most people the wider race cut rear is not only faster but more precise. The key is matching the front and rear widths to provide an optimal ratio.
Both versions are very good sights and a huge improvement over stock.
I've tried both, and my match gun is set up with a race-cut Heinie rear and a .115 wide front. They're faster AND more accurate in my experience.
Carry or competition, I much prefer something wider than the traditional .125" width. Most of my stuff is .140 to .150, BUT I maintain a .120-.125 width front blade. I've seen setups with a .150 rear notch, and a .090 whisker-front that are very difficult for many people to see unless they're a kid w/Yeager-vision. Leaving the standard front on but allowing a bit more light at the rear seems the better way to go.
You'll get a bit more precision IF you have the time to use it once you get extended if the fight lasts that long. Evidence suggests that at 'most' gunfight ranges you can do what you need to do with a bald slide and better not be worrying about bullseye-quality alignment but that's another discussion...
Heinie's are sturdy stuff so no worries there. If you don't feel like mucking with it yourself, Matt's race-cuts are a nice deal.
(I sure wish someone would buy Bomar and get them back in production again...)
:(
Good luck; be safe out there.
