Have a G27 here. Also have a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel and a Storm Lake G33 barrel to shoot 357sig. Don't mind the recoil of the .40 or .357, but don't like the prices of ammo in those two calibers now. I find myself shooting the 9mm more simply because of the price.

I like the idea. some questions though,
is the switch hard to get squeezed?
is it adjustable?
where are the batteries?

is the switch hard to get squeezed? No all you have to do is hold it like you are going to fire it and it's on.
is it adjustable? Yes but you don't need to, it's dead on.

where are the batteries? look at this picture

I have a Kahr PM40 that has been extremely reliable and accurate for such a small pistol. It has a snappy kick and sometimes breaks the skin on my thumb after 50 rounds or so.

It gets attention at the range due to its size and how loud the report is. I really like it but it was quite expensive.

Speaking of 40s . . . .

When I started on this trail, I thought of buying a G50--a 23 and a 27. I've the 27 and funds to buy another. I still think of buying a 23 but some friends recommend another 27.

The 27 has a lasermax. I'd buy the 23 with nightsights. I carry the 27 daily. Not sure when I'd carry the 23. Still, it's a slightly different platform with different application. I'm not a LEO, so there's no vocational advantage to any particular platform. I've a J-Frame and a Ruger GP100 when I need to carry in different circumstances or for hunting/hiking.

With the upcoming election, not sure that I'd be able to find a 23 or 27 as cheap as I can now.

What's your opinion?

RickD6023

Well, it is not that I worship the .40, but it is a capable cartridge, and is the standard duty pistol cartridge for the police agency for which I work. We buy our own weapons, choosing from several authorized makes and models of DA autos, and I have two SIG P229s with DAK actions on my qual card as duty pistols, and a third stainless-steel-frame P229 with the standard DA/SA action as an off-duty weapon, though I may soon shoot the longer qual course to upgrade it to full duty pistol also. The steel frame makes it an "orthopedic" pistol that kicks less; not that recoil disturbs me, but my old wrists are not what they used to be.

I actually still have yet a fourth P229 in .40, but it is destined to be traded soon. I can't shoot it as well as my DAK P229s nor my heavier stainless-frame P229.

Yup. We went to Sigs only, in .40 or.45. That DAK trigger ate up my finger and I "had" to go back to my old P220 with the standard action..

count me in after a 4 year hiatus; lightly used Glock 23 w/ 3 factory hi-caps for $500; lightly used Trijicon tritium night sights that came off shop owners Glock 33 (he changed to Trijicon Hi-Viz 'day glow' sights w/ Tritium inserts) for $75 installed; added another factory hi-cap mag for $20 & a Bianchi Accumold holster for $35 at a different shop; selected hollowpoint load for now is Remington UMC Value Pack 180gr jhp...the one that is like a bottomless pit! enjoyed my first range session...275 rounds of mixed brands & types of loads...gun is more accurate than myself, but I switched from a Bereta 92FS in 9mm & need more time to acclimate to it :wavey:

GLOCK FORTY CAL'S A REAL GOOD PISTOL.
I highly recommend it for CCW.
Mines's a G23 with Crimson Trace and Pearce magazine end plates. It rides rock solid in a Bianchi Carrylock belt slide holster. With 13+1 rounds of 165 Gr. GDHP or 180 Gr. ball ammo in the stock mag, this weapon is suitable for law enforcement duty carry.
:drillsgt: "I depend on it."

I seem to always be different. I have a G20 (yes, 10mm). Because brass is so hard to find I picked up a KKM 40cal. insert. Am now trying 180 grain RN with Bullseye. Seems good (tight groups with 5.0 and 5.5 grains) and will crono soon.

Just ordered my g23, it should be coming in today. I was wondering what anyone would reccomend for a range round...something not too expensive but has a good reputation? I had my eye on some remington umc. If the remington is a good round would u suggest 165 grain or 180?

I haven't had a problem with the Wally World Special which is Winchester White Box. It is the cheapest that I have found in my area, and out of the rounds that I have shot, no problem so far except that it makes your gun extremely filthy.

I haven't had the prob with WWB.I've shot 9mm/.40/.45acp and have normal cleaning issues. It's gone boom everytime and is fairly accurate.I buy the 100rnd "Bonus Packs"for the range.

Congrats on the G23/I think/believe it's the best Glock model built.'08.

Looks like I have the first posting of a 1911 in this thread. A couple a weeks ago I picked up a Springfield Champion (4 inch barrel "loaded" model) in .40 S&W. Bought it in spite of the highly negative comments on the 1911Forum. They really don't like .40s over there. My first trip to the range made me a very happy owner. It ran butter smooth with no FTFs or FTEs in 300 rounds of Remington 165 grain FMJs. This is a very sweet shooting gun.

...possible acquistions.
Looking at:

23; 27; & 35

I have 3 Beretta .40's.
Mini Cougar 8040F; 96 Centurion & 96F.
All fine firearms, and I'd go with another Mini Cougar for my Wife if she'd go for that.
However ---

Wife wants 'simple' for CCW and I hold the 23 up as one of the best handguns made for this purpose, IF she's willing to pack the size and power.
Otherwise, it's probable that she'll end up with a S&W 638 Bodyguard ( OK by me, either way ).

All calibers and all guns are a compromise of one factor or another of competing objectives.

Forty is not known for being a very enjoyable caliber to shoot because it is very "snappy" in feel (as compared to forty-five, for example). It's merits lie in that guns chambered in forty tend to have a little better capacity than .45 and it can be a little less costly to shoot.

I see both 9mm and .45 acp as somewhat better choices, but for different reasons.

Forty can be viewed as having better capacity and is a little less expensive to shoot than .45, and better power than .9mm.

Forty can also be viewed as worse capacity than 9mm, more costly to shoot than 9mm, and worse power than .45!

Is the glass half full or half empty? You decide that.

That said, it is a reasonable choice in caliber if you can find a platform which you enjoy shooting it in.

For forty, I've got a couple of Browning Hi-Powers in .40, an M&P 40 Compact, a G23, and most recent acquisition, an STI Edge in .40. Of them all, the G23 is the least enjoyable to shoot, I really don't like shooting it at all - compared to other choices. (I really do like my G19 and G30, however.) The Hi-Power, M&P 40C, and Edge all handle .40 surprisingly nicely. But the Edge is by far the nicest shooting .40 I can imagine there being due to it's size, weight and build quality... so smooth, so stable, and great capacity (17-rnds in the standard mag).
