I have narrowed it down to getting a Streamlight TLR-1 . I want to know what your thought / comments are on this light system. I like that its LED and theres no fiiment to break and its also machined aluminum. I already have a Streamlight M3 with a halogen bulb but it gets too hot when on for 5 minutes or more . The LED should keep heat down along with battery consumption.
It's a very good light for the money! Smart buy!

You will NOT be disappointed. It is a great light and rides happily on my G22 daily.
Have one mounted on my G19 and I've put probably 400-500 rounds thru her with the light mounted and have experienced no prob's. Muzzle blast has resulted in some discoloration/wear on the TLR, but it doesn't affect the function of the light. Easy to take care of; after the range I just wipe it down with a silicone cloth and it's good to go.
You'll probably hear that changing batteries can be a pain, but you just need to make sure that the battery door is aligned properly before you try to close it up.
For me, it's a great light for the price.

Haven't tried any other pistol-mounted lights but I have put a few hundred rounds downrange with the TLR-1 mounted on a 9mm Glock with no problems at all.
My light gives a strong spot with adequate throw. I'd prefer less spot and more spread as POA is not centered to the spot on my gun and there's no simple way to adjust that.
The bright spot shined in an opponent's eyes might give me an edge, and within my home the difference between center of spot and POA might be insignificant.
Nothing's perfect. I think the TLR-1 is good value and I'm happy enough with mine.

I could not be happier with mine (TLR-2). Perfect ambidextrous controls, light beam, and batteries. Also, the unit can be taken off/put on in about 4 seconds.

The best LED-based light I've seen for indoor use is the discontinued SureFire X200B. It's even better than the new X300, giving very even flood illumination in average rooms. But it is limited on range compared to the X200A and X300.
The attached pic roughly compares a TLR-1 to a SureFire X200B. While the comparison is not ideal, you can clearly see the TLR's hot spot and secondary cone of light, vs. the X200B's even flood illumination, and vignetted edges. The X200B directly illuminates more of a room.
At well over a hundred dollars more than a TLR-1, you have to decide if it's worth it to you!

I appreciate the reply . It will be for my G-19 and my XD-9 Service. Can you help me on this : Is the mounting of it just like the regular ones where theres a spring-loaded horizontal bar that you have to push down to get it on the rails?

Maybe its just me but I perfer the TLR's beam. Looks just like my hand helds beams from surefire.

I liked the TLR-1 when I examined it at the gun shop--especially for the money.
Yeah, the X200B is a specialized light, with a wide flood beam and limited range.
The X200A is also a specialized light, with a far-reaching spot beam, allowing useful illumination at 200-feet or better, to night adapted eyes. It reaches well beyond the X200B, but its beam is a little tight for indoor use.
The new X300 seems to combine the X200 A&B's performance, making it a better all around light.
I'll probably mount the "A" to a new shotgun, and pick up another "B" for the other pistol.

No, the TLR-1 uses a screw with a slot for a nickel. I wish it had the spring loaded bar, I like that better. But I’m happy with my TLR-1.

Okay , so I guess that explains its ability to fit on any size rail . Thanks 6string.

The light comes with Keys, which can be changed out to allow it to fit perfectly on 1913 Rails and SW rails.
I skipped the TLR-1 and went with TLRL-2. I have always wanted to have the laser but even the most expensive models have very short (approx.2 hours) run time. The TLR-2 will give over 45 hours in laser only mode. I got the laser I want plus a light as bonus. I am a happy camper.
