Every gun I own that I think is worth keeping wears the S&W logo. All are pre 1993's. A club member was selling a unfired Taurus 85. that was built prior to the hammer lock. Bought it and very pleased with it. Msn has a tuarus talk forum, and try as I may can not get it to allow me to post this question! What was the last year Tuarus did not use the hammer lock. reading the Msn boards model 85's prior to 1993 were not +p rated. my Serial # is PL37xxx. Is it safe to shoot +p ammo in this gun?
I think the locks started appearing in the late 90's, but not positive. Try running your SN here.... http://www.taurususa.com/products/findmodel.cfm
According to the Taurus site it was built in 1999. Bout it last Nov and had defintiely (til I got ahold of it ) "shoot alittle and carried alittle".
I just inspected it closer - Damn - didn't even notice it but it DOES have the hammer lock! Ha - when I bought it all the gunshop owner did was drop it in a bag - no key nothing.
No problems so far after 700-800 rounds - mostly +P.
