Didn't realize they had so many problems....My S9 has worked great so far.
what did they say bad about them?
No idea what the article said, but the M's run just as fine as any other gun!

Mr Peter Kokalis states the Steyr M series pistols he observed were:
Prone to double feeding, constant failure to go completely into battery to the point that shooters were trained to smack the rear of the slide, failure of the trigger safety lever to reset, repeated light primer strikes, failure to feed FMJ ammo and prone to stovepiping.
I had zero problems with my M40, right there with my Glocks for reliability and ease of maintenance.
Im sorry I traided it. :crying:

Weird, never heard that one.
My M9 has never had any of those issues.

I had problems with mine in the 1st 500rds.
I also had problems with the extractor-claw after 2-3K rounds
I also had problem ( strangely ) with the front site dove-tail cracking on the sight ( not the frame ) after running about 1k rds of 357sigs thru it.
I also had a 2nd set of problems with the claw wearing down after yet another 4K round
I also had problem and still have problems with the dropped down safety-lever either 1> failing to engage making the gun safe or 2> or engaging on it's own after a series of double or triple taps. It happens ocassionaly still to this date but I haven't had one of these mishaps with in the last 12months but I'm also not shooting 1000K plus rounds within 2months since I have a M&P 40 now ;)
NOTE: I still carry the steyr M40 over the Smith ;)
Basically the gun is good, but like all new weapons problems due exist. I 'm still keeping mine. It's one of the best gun even with the problems noted above and it only costed me $380.00 new ( priced included shipping + tax ).
My M40-A1 used to double feed but after having the extractor replaced it's run flawlessly.

They must have got a bad/old one or something, I've got about 1200 rounds through my M9-A1, NEVER a problem. Not a single FTF, FTE, nothing. Never even had brass hit me in the face/head like Glock's occasionally do, not that that is really much of a problem. And with the CDNN price of $350, I think it's one of the best deals you can get for a quality semi-auto.
And I haven't cleaned mine in the last 500 rounds or so, still works fine, I know I'm nuaghty.

Over 2,000 rounds on my M40-A1, most of them upper end handloads with no problems.

IIRC, the article stated that the A1's corrected many issues, which was a later version. The article discussed the original M-series that were used overseas and not too many were imported into the US.

I have been wondering about the CDNN Steyr pistols. Did Steyr dump a boatload of slightly defective pistols on the market and CDNN buy them all?
I would be interested in knowing who bought Steyrs from CDNN and who bought them elsewhere and the problem guns - good guns breakdown. I've always been interested in the Steyr design but wouldn't want to buy a lemon.

As far as I have heard, The Steyr distributor or whatever they are called, dumped all their inventory due to possible importation problems that never occurred. CDNN bought them all up, it's not just defective ones. They bought all their pistols, mags, and rifles.
I can't comment on other people's guns, but my M9-A1 has been flawless since i bought it. According to the date code, mine was made in October of '05. So it's definitely not just old ones they dumped
Of possible interest, the Cabela's here in Boise had Steyr M9-A1s and M40-A1s on sale for i think $380. First time I've seen Steyrs at Cabelas, so maybe others have them too.
I got my M40-A1 from CDNN and the only problem it had was that the extractor wouldn't remove spent cases. Shipped it off to SAI and they installed the newer style extractor, no charge. It has been 100% flawless since then and can't wait to make some hot reloads for it.

I have a friend who got an M9 from CDNN and it does have problems with feeding and the trigger does NOT reset all the time. In fact some times he can dry fire it and rack the slide back 5x in a row and the trigger will not reset to fire.
He doesn't carry it and just uses it as a range toy so he doesn't care. My brothers M40-A1 has been flawless. He got his at a Gander Mountain.

If he sends it to SAI he will have a perfect gun in no time flat.

He knows. He's a country boy and found out it's almost 50 dollars to mail it so he said screw it since he has several others to play around with.
cost me about $8 to ship mine. The "must be overnight" is just company rules of fedx and ups, not law. Of course i did not send the serial numbered frame so i just wrote "parts" in the descrption of the box contents.
If it is atrigger issue maybe he could send the subassembly and slide and let the shop stick it in a frame to test, or just do not write gun or pistol or any such in the item description "defective m-9-a-1 unit" or such.
