View Full Version : GSG-5 question
Folks,
Got a question. I have a GSG-5 coming that is close to delivery. The GSG-5 has a permanently attached suppressor to get the barrel to over 16".
If I replaced the fake can with a real one would that be in compliance as long as the real can is attached and meets the length requirement? Would it require 1 stamp or 2. Not sure of the implications of modifying the fake can with a real one.

Should only require 1 stamp if perm attached to 16"

just to clarify, the GSG-5 comes with a 16" bbl with a slip-on fake suppressor...so you will have to cut the bbl and have the suppressor perm. attached.
Gemtech makes a short barrel with permenantly attached noise suppressor, which is only 1 tax stamp.
Gemtech also makes a detachable noise suppressor for those who already have a short barrel, which ends up being 2 tax stamps.

To be sure it is clear, if Hedo1 cuts the permantely attached fake surpressor off his rifle hasn't he just created a SBR? Danger! Hedo1 better have the tax stamp before he gets near the rifle with a hack saw.
Then he needs to [already] have a tax stamp for the suppressor before he attaches it to the now SBR? Since he has the suppressor tax stamp (independent from the SBR), he could move the surppressor to another weapon he owns when he wants to.
Or can Hedo1 buy the suppressor (to get the serial number) from his favorite store (who will hold it until he has the tax stamp), apply for a SBR/Suppressor license/stamp (providing both the rifle and suppressor serial numbers on the application) before he cuts and then once he has the combined tax stamp, cut off the fake and permanently attach the new suppressor?
Thanks for the clarification.
Thanks for the info so far guys. That was the point. If I cut it off am I creating a SBR before I install the real can.
I saw the Gemtech catalog and they stated the will sell a GSG-5SD with the suppressed barrel on a "Gemetech Supplied" firearm. I'm not sure if they would do the work on my own weapon.

I was told if you send in your barrel they will do the work.
But, this is when they first were working on the idea, so I'm not sure if they changed their minds. You should call them to clarify.
