This might be a dumb question but I would rather know now that find out later as I am looking down the barrel of a gun.I have a Concealed Carry permit for VA. I could be wrong but I think if I am on a boat fishing less than 3 miles out I am still in VA and my CC permit should be valid. What if I am 4 miles out? Is my permit still valid?

Not a dumb question.
You could be 50 miles off-shore!
The short answer is…..
The Coast Guard doesn’t enforce CCW permits. Legal firearms on boats are not against the law so long as the person possessing the firearm has the right to legally do so. Meaning they aren’t intoxicated, on drugs, convicted felon, renounced citizenship etc etc ect………
If you are boarded by the Coast Guard you can expect to be asked about weapons. The Boarding Officer will probably take possession of said weapon/ammo until they finish with business. If everything goes well, meaning no warrants or any major violations….you’ll get the weapon back at the conclusion of the boarding.
Guns on boats are pretty common practice. Just remember to follow the Boarding Officers instructions and everything should go smoothly.
