I had a G-35, and really liked the way the gun handled, and it was accurate, especially for a 40. Now I am looking for a range gun that is fun to shoot and accurate, but in 9mm. Which brings me to my dilema - which one?
I realize the 17L is not legal for IDPA, but that is not a problem. I am only looking for an accurate, fun, range gun. So for those that have/had either the 17L or 34, what are the differences, if any, and what did you like/dislike about them?
I plan on using my tax rebate for the purchase. What better way to stimulate the economy than to buy another firearm to upset the Liberal politicians!
Thanks for any input.

34
more holster options, more versatile (if you choose to compete someday).
I was just going through this same decision and ended up with the 34 for practicality purposes. Love it to. Of course I got it at LE cost and it came with fixed sights and the 5lb trigger which is fine with me...

Never regretted my G17L. Didn't buy it for competition, but for defending me and those who rely on me. I'm sure there are more options for the G34 but I didn't settle for anything less than the G17L. It's what I wanted and what I got. If you are happy with the G34, then good on you.
My 17L is almost as accurate as my Olympic Arms k9GL 9mm AR at 25 yards. I would buy the 17L first since it is more rare and then get a 34. I may be trading the K9GL for a 34 at some point(K9 is unreliable).
If as you say you are only going to use it for the range, 17L all the way. I've owned a few of them. One in particular I used as a UL GSSF gun. It had a fitted BarSto barrel and was just a tack driver. It was pretty accurate without the BarSto too.
I sold all of my 17L's (regret it sometimes) but if I were looking to buy a 9MM range gun and it was going to be a Glock, the 17L would get the nod.

I agree on the 17L, you can always get a 34 later on, but will you be able to get a 17L?

" . . . and it was accurate, especially for a .40."
In my decades of shooting, I've found that one gun and caliber is about as accurate as another, or as the shooter. Hardly anybody gets the full accuracy out of a handgun unless he's putting it in a vise. Some low-recoiling calibers seem easier to shoot and more accurate, but I think it's mostly the fact that the shooter doesn't flinch as much, etc.
I shot .40 in competition for many years and was very pleased with how it would stack bullets.

The 17L if for no other reason than they may not be around forever.

Well, the 17L now resides in my safe. I will be happy when I can get the time to shoot it, but until then I will just have to hold it and imagine!
