This is weird...I bought a new S&W Airweight about 8 months ago and I can never remember the model number. It's silver with an exposed hammer, and a small, hard checkered grip. I can't even find it on the S&W site now.

Anyway, all of a sudden I woae up in the middle of the night and thought hey, I didn't get a case with it. No case, no lock, no documentation, no nothing. I got a case with my Model 10, my Glock, my XD..but not with the snubbie. At least I don't remember getting one and can't fine one in my stuff. I can't even remember how the sales guy brought it out to the cash register with us like they have to do here. It's a reputable old store.

Does S&W not provide cases for the snubbies or did I get stuck with a sales guy who didn't know all the stuff that goes with the product?

My guess is that it is a 637 (checked some of your previous posts, and that is what you said you have). So far as getting a case, was it new or used? I ask because the issue you had with skipping cylinders (or did that get resolved?) If it was new, you should have gotten all the accoutrements with it, including case, key for locking device, paperwork, etc.. Even the most reputable gun shop can make mistakes, especially if they are busy, have a sick kid at home, etc...(even good waiters forget to put a lemon in my iced tea now and then). If you are certain (check with significant other) that there is no case, etc..., go back to the gun shop with receipt (hopefully you kept it).

Keep us posted.

I if was new maybe your old (established) gun shop is like my local guys...

I sure hope not!

Please read to the end of the linked thread. My LGS said that they did not sell the gun but sent it back to Taurus again (properly this time as it was sent w/o a RA the first time).

I agree sounds like a 637.

I have one.

I got a blue plastic hard case with tons of paperwork, gun lock (as required by law) and the keys to the internal lock.

If you did NOT get those then you where done wrong, either on purpose or accident.

Perhaps this wasnt a new gun?

Was supposed to be new...maybe it wasn't. Geez it's been so long I feel pretty stupid now. Yes I think 637 is right, I just don't ever recognize the grip in pictures for some reason.

The issue with skipping cylinders was my fault. I was squeezing the trigger and releasing without firing - not realizing the cylinder will still advance. So I'd create the skip myself. Now I watch myself closer.

It's not that fun to shoot because the trigger pinches my fingertip upon firing.

You have the receipt?
If it was new, it shoulda had all the stuff like box, lock and papers.

...If it was a new gun, and if you take your receipt (or even the gun) back to the shop and ask, it's possible that they still have the box/papers in the back room and they'll give them to you.

I've worked at several gunshops over the years, and this was a semi-regular occurrence. Usually it would come to light at the year-end inventory, when everything gets counted and accounted for. We'd invariably end up with a couple of unmatched handgun cases/boxes, and it would be my job to track down which gun they belonged to and find out who bought them, if possible. S&W cases/boxes are easy if they still have the label attached, as it contains all the gun's info (make, model, serial number, caliber, etc.) that is needed to track the gun down in the dealer's record book.

It's possible that they cleared-out any excess boxes at year's end, but it's worth checking, in my opinion. Good luck!

You might consider contacting Smith & Wesson. You can submit a firearm history request. You take a picture of the firearm, write a check for $30.00 and fillout the form. In about a month you will get a complete history. Smith will tell you whom and where the revolver was shipped, the model history and any other features about your firearm.

Here is the form: 146529

All standard production Smith & Wesson revolvers are shipped with locks, manuals, an application to the S&W club and a case (usually a blue plastic).

Good luck.

I went back to the store last night and it turns out lots of people do walk out without the box. They had a stack of them for sale. But I thought I'd look again more carefully and there it was, just like new, buried under boxes of brass underneath my desk. Apparently I stuck it there right away and holstered the snubbie rather than carry one more box in my range bag....sorrry.. :embarassed: The box seems to be for bigger guns, though, because the latches just kinda hang there.

Anyway, my other problem: I'm not enjoying shooting the thing because it pinches me. I'm pulling from the first crook in my finger and with the trigger all the way back it snags my fingertip and hurts like hell.

Is this normal? Does it mean something about fit? I wear a women's medium size glove.

It sounds like the pad of your finger is being caught between the trigger and the rear of the trigger guard. A slight beveling of the sharp rear edge of the trigger can stop this, or at least minimize it. Make sure you are indeed keeping the crease of the joint centered on the trigger face; if you are reaching farther, and curling too much finger around the back side of the trigger, you will get pinched regardless. An optional wider trigger can also stop the problem, if S&W still offers the wider trigger option, which may not be so with the MIM parts.
