View Full Version : What suppressor is BEST?!??

Recently sold a few firearms and traded in some others to whittle down my collection. I did this for two reasons. First being I wanted to pick up a couple of guns that have caught my eye. Secondly, money is tight and I couldn't afford to do this without liquidating some of what I had.
I picked up a Sig P220 Combat with threaded barrel and an H&K Compact Combat Tactical. Both of these are in 45 ACP. I am thinking of outfitting one of them with a suppressor.
I am leaning towards the H&K for now. I have a USP compact in 45 with a stainless slide that I have had for almost nine years now. I'd like to use that for carry and the compact tactical for a suppressor. I have called H&K for their advice and no one seems to be returning my calls.
I have gone to the websites for AAC, Gem Tech, Yankee Hill, SWR, AWC, etc., etc. I get more confused the deeper I look. Anyone with any suggestions or knowledge for the uninformed?
I am not looking for the cheapest, nor do I want to spend a ton of money. I want the BEST for the money I spend.
Thanks,
Eddie:wavey:
For The HK, check out the Gemtech Blackslide,
I have one teamed up with a HK Tac , its been flawless.
I usually use a mixture of vasaline and break free as a artifical medium.
Until you shoot it outside, you can not really appriciate the can.

The HK has left hand threads. I'm pretty sure the Sig has right hand threads...so, your suppressor will work with both -- however, you will need to get either a different insert on a booster or get a different booster altogether.
Just wanted to let you know you CAN have fun with both.
I'm currently waiting on my Form 4 to come back for my .45 can for my HK Tactical (full-size). I've got a local guy making it for me. He's also threading up my Beretta 96 .40 so I can use the can on it as well. The way we're making this work is by adding a different thread insert for the booster. I can remove/add it depending on what gun I want to use with the can. Fun, fun, fun! Can't freakin' wait!

Hi grecco. It's funny you mentioned that. I called H&K yesterday morning and they never called back. I called again this morning and I left my number again. When I didn't get a call back by this afternoon I called yet again. A woman answered and she told me the only two suppressors that H&K recommends, and that won't void the warranty, are Knights Armament and B&T, a Swiss made product. Only the B&T isn't imported anymore she said.
I checked prices and the suppressor from Knights Armament is $1500.00+.
Well the technical guy from H&K called and he said the can from Knights won't work, it's made for the full sized tactical. I said well if the full sized can won't work, and they don't make one for the compact, and they stopped importing the B&T, what do I do?
He said he couldn't advise me. I think he was afraid I might hold him to it. I asked "If you were me, and you couldn't use any of the previous choices, what would you do?!??" He said go with Gem Tech. Great product and they stand behind what they sell.
What models do they have for the compact tactical 45?

Drop to a 9mm gun, silencers work so much better and no need to fill them up with goop to make them quiet.

That's kind of a moot point right now. I'm already into the 45's moneywise.

Cool. Sterling let me know how you like yours when you get it.

Eddie,
I would suggest looking at http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/
There are several good options, I went with SWR and I am happy I did.

I would suggest calling Gemtech,
they are a good company to deal with, a phone call can save you a headache in the future incase the blackslide does not allow your compact to function properly.

AAC,Gemtech SWR and AWC are all fine MFG's. I have no idea who yankee hill is. You will spend around $1000 for a 9mm or .45 pistol can, whoever you choose. Theres no way around it.
The choice comes down to the barrel connection and what mfg claim are their DB reductions. As I said, any of the above companies will fill your nitch.

Yankee Hill Machine (YHM) makes a lot of different rifle and pistol suppressors at a very good price. Here is a link to their website: http://www.yhm.net/store/sound.html
I have a YHM Cobra in 9mm and am very happy with it. Major Malfunction Munitions has the 9mm Cobra for $399 and the .45 Cobra for $449. Here is a link to his site: http://major-malfunction.com/maj_malf_5u_010.htm
