View Full Version : G-35 for Limited 10?
I'm hoping that Hoss and some of the other "gurus" will give me some input on this.
Until last fall I was shooting Limited 10 with a single stack .45, then I "upgraded" to an SV and went in to Limited. The SV is sweet and all but I'm thinking of simplifying and going to a G-35 for a couple differant reasons. First I really enjoy shooting Limited 10, I like the extra stratagie of planning reloads and it's really not a huge disadvantage anyway. The other thing is that I can't look at the SV setup without seeing about $2k that could be doing other things. I also have do admit I like the Glock reliablity, change the mag springs every 5 years wheather they need it or not, etc.
The thing I really like about the SV is how flat it stays with the bull barrel and extended dustcover, the trigger is nice too. I can shoot quite a bit faster with the SV than I could with the single stack. Will the G-35 be more like the SV or the single stack? My other concern is the mags, I see a lot of people shaking their Glocks, My G-22 has mags stick pretty bad but it is a factory rebuilt (cop gun) and the sides of the grip have been squished, probably by a Houge grip or something.
I'm not interesed in shooting production so I'll be adding a KKM or Bar-Sto and some good sights. Maybe a tungsten guide rod, if they make one for the Glock, and magwell. I could go back to the single stack but I like the feel of a fatter grip and I've got buckets of .40 brass around.
I know that the Glocks can be competitive, I just dont know if I can be competitive with a Glock.
Anyway, thanks for any opinions etc.

It sounds like your mind is already made up. Are you going to sell the SV? I'm doing the opposite right now. I shoot limited with a tricked out 35. I just order an STI. I know a guy that moved up a whole class just from going from a glock to a STI/SV type gun. I say borrow a friends and see what you think, or try out your 22. I don't think the G35 will shoot as well as either the SV or 1911. I haven't competed with a 1911 style gun as of yet, but there's a reason so many people compete with them. Even after I get my STI, I'm still going to keep my G35 as a back-up. Here's what I would do. Sell the SV. Buy a glock, trick it out, and use it for a while. If you don't like it, sell it and buy another SV.;)

If your used to the SV/1911 trigger you will probably have a let down with the Glock 35 trigger. It just doesn’t compare having said that you might want to consider a Top Fuel trigger from Matt at Custom Glock http://www.gunracing.com/Qstore/c000019.htm if memory serves me correctly he charges roughly $200.00 for the trigger job. I recently had him work on my Glock 34 in which he did the Trigger and replaced the factory barrel with a BarSto.
BTW, I also own a Glock 35 which has a KKM barrel and a trigger job that was done by a local smith/manufacturer. Both guns have tungsten guide rods, brass magazine wells and bomar sights. Attached is a photo of both. The 34 still has the original barrel in this picture.

For what it is worth, I think the Glock 22/35 is the prefect gun for Limited 10. I prefer the G22 over the G35 but a lot of people like the longer slide of the G35.
If you go with an aftermarket barrel PROPERLY fitted the accuracy will be equal to just about anything else you could shoot. Mine G17 and G22 using a Bar Sto will easily shot under 2" at 25 yards.
The recoil impulse will be a little more severe then the SVI and the 1911 but it will be shorter in duration, especially with the G22, which is something I like. Once you get used to it, you won't have any problems with it. I actually like it better which is why on my STI's and 1911's I lighten the slides. The triggers can be made very nice. They will never be as crisp as a 1.5 lbs on a 1911, but properly done they are very workable. We get them down to about 2-2.25 lbs with zero overtravel and you should be able to break sub .2 splits without any problems. I can regularly get down to about .13 to.16 splits without any problems.
If you are using the current generation 10 round magazines it is very easy to modify them to drop freely from the gun.
The addition of a Tungsten guide rod, and a magwell will add a little weight aiding in recoil control. I don't use them but a lot of people do. Maybe we can get Beven to make some tungsten magwells.......
My Glocks are setup using a Bar Sto barrel, DMW trigger assembly, Heine sights, a G21 mag release button, and our standard trigger job. I have found that I can do just about anything I need to do to win with this setup. I use it in Production, Limited 10, and Limited, and am just as successful with it as I am with my STI's, and 1911's.
Bottom line is the Glocks are accurate, reliable, very fast target to target, and capable of winning in any class, at any level. They will never be the factor that limits your success.
So what is the trick for making FML mags drop free consistently from a G35? I've got a few that drop every time, and a bunch that don't want to drop. The hangup point seems to be up around the top of the mag rather than the sides along the inside of the frame.
I've tried slicking them up with Armorall, rubbing them to polish up the plastic, cleaning the inside of the gun to within an inch of it's life, even sanded on a couple of them. So far none of it seems to make much difference.
All of my 10 round mags, and the couple of orange mags I have drop like a rock, but not the majority of FML full-cap mags.
I remember seeing somewhere that if you tapped along the side of the magazine walls with a rubber-mallet that this would 're-size'it back to spec[?].
Never tried it myself, treat info like other 'net knowledge.
Do at your own risk.

Are you sure your mags are FML? Does the notch on the back resemble a semi-circle or square? If they have the square-ish notch, have you disassembled them to verify they are FML? I don't know everything there is to know about the generational differences of the Glock mags, so I may be guessing at straws.
If its a 2nd or 3rd Gen FML, and it won't drop free, chances are its getting close to being worn out. I've read here that you can load your mags about halfway, and partially insert them backwards.
I've got 2 1st gen mags, and 3 2nd gens, and the 3 2nd gens drop just fine, one of the 1st gens will come out easily when loaded, but the other one is about worn out I think. With a new spring, I can easily get 18 rds in it (not that I do that on a regular basis) and the sides are noticeably bulging. I primarily use that mag for defensive purposes, because I know its not going to fall out at all if I mistakenly hit the mag release.
If you can get to a Glock match, or feel like sending the mag to Glock, you might be able to get it repaired, or find out the scoop on why it doesn't want to behave like the others (provided its a FML).
Just my $.02.
