How does one get started? Do you secure the weapon first? Do you get paper work first? I know there is quite the wait time for a stamp, so what exactly is the process if I were to want, say maybe a full auto?

Unfortunately, the FAQ does not mention probably the most common method of transferring NFA items these days: through a trust. There are many advantages to this route and few disadvantages. For more information, here's a link to a posting on another board about what it is, how to set one up, etc:

Arfcom also has a 45-page thread on the subject here:

Hopefully this will shed some more light on the topic for you.

Thanks for the replies. Noted. I think perhaps my question was so stupid it just flew under the radar or something though. To be abit more specific:
I go to class III ffl that can actually sell me an NFA weapon, pick out what I want, then....
what? pay for said item in full? place a deposit until the paperwork clears? What is the normal procedure is basically what I was asking.
Full Auto info----I've never bought a Full Auto directly from my c3 dealer. They have all been transfers through him. do you have any idea what you want? Price range if you are unsure?? Search www.subguns.com and www.sturmgewehr.com for alot of c3 toys for sale. You are looking for transferable firearms and not a "POST or dealer sample" gun.....
If you can find what you are looking for online, most sellers will require funds up front to start the paperwork. Some, occationally will take 50% to start the paperwork and the 50% to transfer the gun... A out of state gun that's already on a form 3 will save you an additional 200.00 transfer fee also.
Rough prices:
3k+ Mac 11's
7K+ UZI
10k+ M16
15-17k HKMP5
and tons of others in between these prices.
I've sold all my FA firearms and just have SBR's now. I enjoyed the FA guns but I guess I just got it out of my system.
SBR's-- Pretty easy to "make" your own. Minimal cost compared to FA.
