Not a safe practice, especially with a gun without a manual safety.

http://www.gunguys.com/?p=2234

Albany police Sgt. Kinshishi Adams, 34, was lying in bed Sunday when a .40 caliber pistol she kept under her pillow discharged and struck her in her left wrist, Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek said.

Adams was listed in good condition Tuesday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Valerie Benton said.

"She sustained an extremely serious wound to the left wrist and underwent surgery (Sunday) night," Cheek said. "Everything indicates it was just a freak accident. She apparently sleeps with a weapon under her pillow, and somehow it discharged.

Thanks dude.

Curious... its a pistol and it might also be a 1911. maybe she accidentally pulled the trigger and the safety was disangaged accidentally, notorious ang mga 1911 ata dito (saw it happen to my friend pag bunot nya from the holster naka-off na).

I assume also that the gun has a chambered round, otherwise the gun would not fire.

IMHO, I'm safe, I think. Here is why: I dont load the first chamber of my wheelgun and its holstered.

like so:

IMHO, the 1911 is the safest pistol by your bedside; it has a grip safety and a thumb safety. A revolver with an empty chamber will protect it from accidental discharge when dropped, but it will still discharge if the trigger is somehow squeezed. I think this is a better idea:

http://www.makarov.com/articles/0202.htm

It is too far for a sleepy head to accidentally or unconsciously fondle while asleep, yet close enough for immediate use.

eug3n3_d3nn1s
04-05-2008, 07:43
^I agree with you re: accidentally squeezing the trigger.

But my bedstand is the first place kids at home look into for spare change. Safer to keep it in a locked cabinet or drawer, but that defeats the purpose of a bedstand gun I think.

Thanks for the link but I cant use the bedside holster, again I cry "kids!".

and

a couple of revolvers strategically placed in high shelves in the house.

We have a 6 year old kid but we don't have problems with her around guns.. I feed her curiosity with them and she always asks my permission and guidance whenever she wants to see my guns. She would say "Daddy, can I see your guns?" She has particular fondness with my AK rifles and my lupara.

I told her of my rules with guns.

1. When you see a gun, don't go near it.
2. Don't touch it
3. Tell an adult.
4. Don't tell anybody else outside the family about guns in the house.

Which she religiously follows. Even when we are not around. She goes in and out of our room and I would check if my guns have been moved in any way. Never have they been moved in any way. Not even once.

Nothing from the Gun Guys website should be given any more credibility than you would give the Joyce Foundation or The Brady Bunch.

They will lie and exaggerate to get you to believe anything.

Shotguns are good if they are of the right length for home defense. This shotgun of mine is way too long to be any good for use inside my home. I think I would use a hack saw on it if it was my sole home defense weapon. Right now it is reserved for deer and pigs.

Oo nga, eh. Magkamali pa ako ng sukat at masyadong maigsi, kulong pa ako.

Super magnum pala itong shotgun, kaya ang 3 1/2 shells. If I am not mistaken, the shell holds 18 .30 caliber lead pellets. I shot it several times using the super magnum shells, hindi na siguro ako uulit. Too much recoil, I can't feel my shoulders afterwards.

The good thing about it is that I can load it with 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. Much, much more manageable. The 2 3/4 inch shell contains 9 lead pellets, more than enough to ruin somebody's day.

My other brother sent us his Remington 870 to shoot at the range when I visited them in TN in 2003. He sent us 3" 00 Buckshot. There was quite a difference compared to the 2 3/4" shells.

If I'm not mistaken, it was the 3" and 3 1/2" 12 ga shells that contributed to the demise of the 10 ga.
