1- My understanding is that the frame, not the slide is "the gun". That is, if the frame is pre-ban then the gun is pre-ban, regardless of the manufacturing date of the slide or barrel. This is relevant to me in that I sent a slide back to Glock that had broken (where the recoil spring sets in the front of the slide, the circular part below the barrel hole). I assume they can send me a new slide manufactured whenever. Is this true?
2- I have a chance to buy a 3rd generation G19 frame with a 1989 manufactured slide. The frame is post ban owned by a private party. Apparently the owner had a cracked frame and Glock sent him a post ban frame. I am surprised because I had a G23 with a cracked frame and they told me they WOULD HAVE sent me a new frame except I was in MA, so they sent me a re-built G23 MA compliant. I know I could not buy this frame from a FFD, but is it legal for me to buy it from a private party? Are state troopers going to show up at my door in two years when the paper work crosses over the wrong persons desk?
I'm sorry to sound so paranoid, but those of you from MA understand my nervousness about the laws here. I certainly don't want to risk losing my LTC for a frame. I live in a very gun-un-friendly town and as much as I'd like the gun, I won't risk any crossing the line activity that puts my license at risk.
Thanks in advance for any help.
