View Full Version : Kahr P9 FTE Issue
New GT member here with a new but older Kahr P9. I recently picked up a pre-owned P9 in great shape in the YA6900 serial range.
The gun is clean and lubed but on the first trip out it had at least (1) FTE jam per magazine. I was using 115gr WWB and tried three magazines with the same result. The spent casing gets caught between the top of the slide and the rear of the barrel, see below pictures.
Anyone had a similar issue and issues on the root cause? The extractor seems to be working but it's not hitting the ejector correctly? I was hoping to transform this into a CCW piece but I don't think it's quite ready yet.
Thanks in advance. -b

Does it happen when others shoot it too?
Has it had the 200 rd break-in?
Looks like the slide isn't going back far enough to eject the brass sufficiently. So, either the slide is being slowed down somehow such as rubbing on the frame if it hasn't been broken in enough, or it is being limp-wristed and eating too much slide momentum.
If it does the same with other more experienced shooters, and has been broken in, it's time to call kahr.
Sorry about that lack of info.
Yes, I had myself and another shooter put rounds thru it and it had the same FTE with both of us. We are typically 1911 shooters and this is the first small Kahr so I can't rule out limp wristing, since this is a lightweight polymer frame and heavier slide. A lot different from the all steel 1911's. I guess I should retry while being very critical of the grip on the frame. I should retry while being very critical of the grip on the frame. The limp wristing makes the most logic since the slide doesn't seem to be traveling back with enough force to hit the ejector.
As for the break-in. The previous owner said it had about 600-800 rounds thru it. Didn't mention any issues but I'm still trying to check into that.
Thanks again.
When I read the description of the problem, lack of break-in was on my mind, too. I was thinking the recoil spring's still too strong, and maybe it needs more breaking-in. Any idea how much experience that gun had before you got it? Anyway, now you know why it was for sale.
Have you tried using hotter ammo (+P ammo, 9mm NATO or Fiocchi brand ammo)?
I think Kahrs run more reliably with "hot" ammo. My previous Kahr ran fine with +P stuff, but sometimes would fail to eject on winchester white box. I think a combination of the very heavy recoil spring, my grip (it was hard at first for me to get used to the very slim grip of the K9), and the Winchester White Box ammo (which I've heard is not as hot as other factory ammo) contributed to this issue.
My current Kahr runs reliably with WWB, but I think I have gotten better with holding/gripping it more securely.
I've had the same thing happen with a YA P-9. Look for slide marks on your barrels chamber area. If you seem to have some use some Flitz on a buffing wheel in a dremal tool to polish that area. While your at it you might as well get the chamber and feed ramp too. Mine cleared up when I relieved the clearance in these areas a little.
