It seems the Type 95 Bullpup will be replaced by this.

5.8 x 42

Yes the QBZ-03. It seems they were not satisfied with the QBZ-95 so they went back to the regular configuration. However, it beats me why they had to develop their own indigenous rifle cartridge when practically the whole world is either using 5.56 NATO (for the most part), 7.62 NATO or 7.62x39. Odd considering that, like Russia, they have ditched the 9mm Makarov as their service pistol round and gone to 9mm Parabellum like most of the world.

What's wrong with the QBZ-95?

Di ba the Russians currently use the AK-74, the one that uses the smaller 7.45x39 round?

But anyway, what was wrong with the QBZ-95?

I tried googling this issue on alleged problems with the QBZ-95, but there was no word about the PLA's problems with this rifle, but then the Chinese may be a bit secretive on this issue.

Of course it suffers from the same human engineering defects as most bullpups, such as righty only shooting (except for the new one from FN, which ejects forward), short sight radius and sights sitting too high, awkward magazine changes, muzzle too near the face thus louder, and in the case of the QBZ-95, the selector in a very awkward position, as per Combat Arms article by Timothy Yan. But then the Steyr AUG had all these (plus no selector, pull trigger slightly for single shot, pull harder for auto), and it's a great success. Not the cartridge, the PLA is still hanging on to it. So the problem may be something else.

At least they are constantly experimenting and not beholden to a single caliber despite cries of being ineffective by its own troops
