How do you insert a picture to the left side of a post?

If there is anybody out there willing to give me a crash course on how you get a small picture posted to the left side of your thread I would really appreciate it. Not to computer savvy yet on certain things. Doesn't hurt to ask I guess.

Do you mean like an Avatar? Like my avatar of Tom Hanks? Or do you mean a picture within the body of your message?
