He wants the same one the Army bought because his kid said they were great shooters. But he's not sure what model it was. Anyone know? And does it have a polymer frame or is it metal?

The Army uses the M9 (Beretta 92FS), in 9mm. They are not and never were produced in .45 ACP.
Beretta made (not any more as far as I know) the Cougar in .45 ACP. The PX4 Storm may be made in .45, i'm not sure.
The 92FS is metal, the Cougar is metal, the Storm is polymer.

Beretta has just released the PX4 in 45acp. As far as I know the military has not purchased any of them.Although,it does feel kinda funny that the military called off the new 45acp handgun remittence program now that their current supplier is capable of producing them.
I have the PX4 in 40S&W. I think its a great pistol. It fits my hand much better then a Glock.
