Does any body know of another red dot scope with the Eo tech reticle? Preferably an aimpoint. I just don't really like the plain dot.

BOSS302 04-22-2008, 02:42 why not just get an eotech? jeaprdy 04-22-2008, 04:02 I am looking at getting a Sig 556 and I understand that some people have had problems with the charging handle and eo tech's. I like everything about the aimpoint except prefer the circle-dot of eo tech's. PlasticGuy 04-22-2008, 12:20 I am looking at getting a Sig 556 and I understand that some people have had problems with the charging handle and eo tech's. I like everything about the aimpoint except prefer the circle-dot of eo tech's. The base of the EoTech is a bit bulky, and can get in the way of the charging handle when used on a Sig 556. If you really like the circle-dot reticle, and are looking to put it on a Sig 556, I'd look at the Leupold Prismatic. It also has the benefit of having a usable reticle if the illumination fails for any reason. jeaprdy 04-23-2008, 00:52 Hmmm....... Not bad. I was hoping to someday get night vision so I will likely go with Eotech. just wondering what else was out there. jeaprdy 04-23-2008, 00:55 Plasticguy how do you have your Sig set up? Any must have accessories? Anything I should stay away from? Thank you very much. PlasticGuy 04-23-2008, 14:30 Plasticguy how do you have your Sig set up? Any must have accessories? Anything I should stay away from? Thank you very much. I actually have three Sig 556's now. I'd taken AR-15's to every rifle class I'd take up until last summer, was always surrounded by guys with more AR-15's, and was never completely happy with the performance I saw. I tried several other rifle platforms, but always found something I didn't like about them that couldn't be changed. I took a Sig 556 to Thunder Ranch last summer, and I was hooked. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have one set up very light, and it is probably my favorite. It is a Sig 556 Commando. It has a Magpul CTR stock, Sig 551 forend (a direct swap for the standard Sig 556 forend), flip up sights, and will soon be wearing an Aimpoint Micro T1. That puts total weight right at 8 pounds with sling and optics, and makes it very comparable in size and weight to the military issue M4 with the M68 Aimpoint. I'd like to swap out the folding stock mechanism for an M4 buffer tube, but I just picked up the tube today and haven't gotten it screwed on yet. The Sig 556 I took to Thunder Ranch is the original version with no iron sights at all. It is serial #27xx and is a very early one with two tone finish (that everyone whines about, but I actually like). All I did to that one was bolt on a Leupold CQ/T optic and a Tactical Link single point sling. It's heavier, at around 9 pounds empty, but it's been such a solid workhorse for the last year that I've been hesitant to change anything on it. I probably will swap the forend for a Sig 551 forend though, and will be adding a Samson flip up front and PRi rear sight before I take my next class in July. My third Sig 556 is set up as a DMR version. It started life as an early Sig 556 with no sights. I have already added a Nikon 4-12 Monarch in Leupold QD rings, and a Harris bipod mounted with a Daniel Defense bipod/rail adaptor. I will also be adding a Samson aluminum rail system when they start shipping in another month or so, and will probably replace the collapsable stock with something more solid. I'm debating between a standard M-16a1 stock that I have in my parts bin, or buying one of the Magpul PRS stocks. I don't know yet. Most of what I've got plans to put on my Sig 556's, I've already tried on someone else's. If it's in my list of accessories I'll be adding to my personal Sig 556's and it's not in either of the recommended or not recommended categories below, it's because I'm pretty sure it will work out but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Accessories I've personally tried on my Sig 556's or a friends and can personally highly recommend: 1) Sig 551 handguards 2) Samson front sight 3) Leupold CQ/T 4) Aimpoint M2, M3, and Micro 5) M-16a1 stock 6) Magpul CTR stock 7) Leupold QD rings 8) Tactical Link single point sling 9) Daniel Defense single point sling Accessories I don't recommend: 1) EoTech -- It is just too bulky and gets in the way when trying to work the charging handle jeaprdy 04-24-2008, 15:07 Awesome, Thank you very much for your help, it makes it a little clearer for me to decide. PlasticGuy 04-30-2008, 00:15 I just bought a Leupold Tactical Prismatic for my Sig 556 Commando, and am pretty impressed. I compared it side by side to an Aimpoint M3, and liked the Prismatic more. The reticle is outstanding, and the optic and mount are tough as heck. It does have a bit more bulk on the right side than the Aimpoint Micro, but reaching the charging handle is not a problem. I like it so far. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
