View Full Version : Opinions on Kahr P45
I've decided to buy another .45acp handgun.
I don't need anything, as I have a few .45acp fullsize pistols, and even a couple .45acp carbines. Also I have a few conceal carry pistols that I'm very comfortable with (Glock 19 for everyday carry, and Kahr PM9 for lighter days).
So, I don't "really need" another carry gun, nor do I "need" another .45acp. The two guns I'm very interested in are the Kahr K45, and a Glock 21SF (both completely different in size, I know).
The Glock 21SF is nice because it has over twice the capacity of the P45, but the P45 would actually be concealable, and it fit's my hand like a dream. It would be nice to have the Kahr to carry, but it's not too different in size compared to my Glock 19 which holds well over twice the amount of rounds (although 9mm).
So are there any complaints about the Kahr P45? I'd like to hear as much good and/or bad as possible.

I own the complete series of Kahr 45s and can tell you that I prefer the TP45 that has been modified by my local gunsmith. I had him reduce the frame to the 6 round or P45 size. It gives me the grip of the P45 and the extra 1/2 inch of barrel. I think it makes a great carry pistol and if I do say so myself almost perfect!!

Sounds like you did your own "Covert" model. I have one in 9MM that I think is the best of both worlds.

It would be nice to have the Kahr to carry, but it's not too different in size compared to my Glock 19 which holds well over twice the amount of rounds (although 9mm). How did you arrive at this???
G19:
Length: 6.85
Height: 5.00
Width: 1.18
Weight: 21oz
P45:
Length: 6.07
Height: 4.8
Width: 1.01
Weight: 18.5 oz
That is a world of difference in size in terms of concealing. In particular the width helps a ton. It would be best to compare the Kahr to the G36 also, which it beats also in the size department. The best thing to do is see if you can get your hands on one, see how it feels in your hands and how well you can conceal it, from there you should have your answer
I like my P45 but don't carry it because I don't shoot as tight of groups with it as I do with either my PM9 or T9. I'm pretty sure it's the operator and not the pistol. All three have been great pistols so far.

I purchased a P45 after much deliberation between it and a G36. At the end of the day the size won me over.
The Kahr is easy enough to shoot well (not exactly a tack driver, but more than adequate as a defense pistol) and it conceals great! Heck, I wear it under polo shirts and it isn't noticeable.
I figured that I would rather have a 7 shot pistol that I can wear all the time then one that I wouldn't wear due to size.
