View Full Version : Removing Lasermax from G19
ABC Glock

Need to get the advice of those with lasermax experience:
A few years ago I purchased a slightly used G19 with a lasermax installed. I love the laser. But I am in need of some cash and have decided to sell the lasermax...but keep the G19.
I have the original lasermax box from the former owner. In it was my pistol's standard guide rod and slide lock. There was no special tool and no slide lock spring. I have removed the laser and replaced it with with my guide rod.
What now? Is the lasermax slide lock spring different from a standard spring? Should I just buy a standard glock slide lock spring? That should be easy. But any suggestions for how I can get the lasermax slide lock spring out and the standard spring back in without the "tool"? Would a paperclip, small allen wrench, or something like that work just as well?
Thanks.

Lasermax's are the best laser available for glocks, unless you want a big one on your accessory rail- you should have little problem selling it. I'd replace the rod/spring assembly, takedown lever, and takedown lever spring. None of these parts is very expensive, nor do they require tools to replace.

If you have the original box that came with the LaserMax, does it have the installation instructions? If so, it should show you whether the spring was replaced during installation, and if so, how it was removed.

The GLOCK recoil spring assembly is captured and can't be disassembled without destroying it. I don't know what you are asking...if you can put the Lazer spring on another guide rod? maybe if it's not GLOCK OEM.
YOU CAN BUY A NEW SPRING ASSEMBLY FOR LIKE $8
look here on the bottom of the page.

I have the installation instructions and I see that the original owner did remove the stock slide lock spring and replaced it with the lasermax slide lock spring. The problem is I don't have the "installation tool" anymore. I guess my question is, do I need the lasermax installation tool to remove the lasermax spring and replace it with a new stock spring?
No, you don't need the "special tool" provided by lasermax to remove or install the lasermax slide lock spring. You can use like you said in your first post a small allen wrench would work. It would make things easier if you had the provided tools, but you can do without them.

Lift up on the back end of the slide lock spring with a small screwdriver or whatever, enough so you can slide the slide lock out either side. Then, slide the small screwdriver or whatever in either side of the frame where the slide lock came out. While applying downward pressure with your thumb on the top rear of the slidelock spring, push up on the front bottom of the spring with the screwdriver from the side. Once you push up slightly, it will loosen & come right out. Install the new slidelock spring by droping it into place & pushing down on the front of it with the screwdriver to "seat" it. You can install the new slidelock the same way you took out the old one. I know that this is wordy, but once you do it you will see how simple it is. Just make sure that when you put the new slidelock in, the top edge with the lip is facing to the rear or it will not engage on the barrel and will not secure the slide assy.
