How do I tell the differance between the old style and the newstyle drop free mags.
I want to order some new mags and want to make sure I get the drop free mags.
There are only NFML (Not fully metal lined) and FML (Fully metal lined) factory magazines, and I can assure you there are no more new NFML magazines available--they were gobbled up during the 1994-2004 ban). Any new Glock magazine you purchase will be a FML magazine. Most will drop free.
NFML magazines have a "U" shaped notch at the rear.
FML magazines have a "\_/" shaped notch at the rear.
I happen to have a couple NFML .40S/W mags around, are they worth any more than the FML mags?

NFML magazines have a "U" shaped notch at the rear.
So what keeps these from dropping free ?
they are not metal lined therefore when they are loaded full of ammo they have a tendency to Swell "get fat" as it were ,when loaded up.. this keeps the mag from dropping freely out of the frame when doing a reload. "Glock" did away with the mag assist cuts in the grips after they went to FML magazines.
