View Full Version : Best Night Sights?
:dunno:Hey G-family how are you all doing? I am not sure if this question was asked before, but what are the best night sights out there for a G19 and whats the estimated cost of having them install? :dunno:
Thanks in advance.

I think it's more a matter of preference. If you like the 3 horizontal dot sight picture then TruGlo, Meprolite, Trijicon, etc will probably work for you. If you want 2 dots vertically stacked then look into the Heinie straight eights. The XS express sights have a dot above a vertical line sight picture. Like I said, all your preference, there isn't really a "best".

Yep! Choice of sights is highly personal.

I have Meprolites on my G19. They glow bright in total darkness, and will probably do so for the next 12-14 years.
Mepros with a Green front and Yellow rears.
There are so many choices that it comes down to preference in my opinion. I have a mixture of the factory Glock night sights, Meprolight, and Trijicon. Out of the three, the Glock night are the brightest, while my personal favorite are the Trijicons. The reason is that the front sight blade is a little thinner and I get a better sight picture. On the other hand, my father likes the Meprolight contrast sights on my Glock 22 most of all. So it all comes down to preference. As far as installation cost, the first set did not cost me anything outside of the price of the sights. The shop that I purchased them from included installation in the price. You may be able to find a shop in your area that will do the same. The one set came from the factory and the set on my 21SF I installed myself. I purchased a sight pusher from brownells. I think it was about $130 plus shipping. This is another option for you and if you have the sight pusher, you can adjust your sights very easy if you need to. If you go the self install route, be sure to get the front sight nut driver tool also. You will be sorry if you don't! It makes installing aftermarket front sights a breeze! I'm not sure what Glocks price is anymore at the factory. You can send them your gun and have night sights installed. The last time I checked with them, they were offering both Glock night sights and Trijicon night sights for a little more money. Or you could have a gunsmith do it for you. In my opinion, I would get the sight tools and do it yourself. You will save more money in the long run by doing so. Especially if you plan on buying more Glocks! Once you have the tools, you can install sights for all of your friends for a small fee! I hope this helps and good luck!

I have Warren Tactical night sights. Green with white dot on front and amber with no white dot on rear figure eight style. I am faster and more precise with this setup. I got them from Custom Glock Racing. The gun shop I bought my G19 from put them on for free.
I got the XS tritium big dot for my 19. I like them a lot other then i need to shoot with them some more to get used to the sight picture and POI..
Those look like they work great! I want to get a set of them! Are they bright?

The front is quite bright and rear is a bit dimmer......but can be seen as "dotting the i" in low light conditions.....

I like the Heinie SlantPro Straight 8s with tritium inserts, myself.

I will say this. I have a set of Heinie stright eight sights (non-tritium) on my 1911. I absolutely love them! I think that I shoot the best with these sights! I just saw on browmells that they offer these in night sights for Glocks now! Wow! I might have to get a set!
Heine Straight 8's! Local install? Why not buy MGW sight tool for future use will pay for it self.....
Glock OEM Night Sights are made by Meprolight, and are the best deal going! Israeli-made Meprolights were the first tritium night sights marketed for use on popular pistols and rifles. The OEM models usually have a staked-on front sight, which dedicates that sight to that gun. Aftermarket Meps have the common thread-on front sight.
Meprolight sights are rugged, well-made, low profile combat sights with a wide front blade to rear sight notch aspect. They are excellent bull's-eye sights out to 30-feet or so. Their large lamps appear bighter than other night sights. The lamps and white plastic o-ring markers are embedded in polished epoxy for easy cleaning and to resist solvents and grime. By design, the front sight appears brighter than the rear sight.
Trijicon sights offer tritium lamps surrounded by an aluminum sleeve, pressed into the sight housing, and covered by a sapphire lens. This lens makes the sight markers appear very sharp in the dark, Vs. Meprolight's glowing orbs, and protects the lamps from external damage. The narrower front blade to rear sight notch aspect will be appreciated by sharper eyed shooters at the range. The quality is excellent, but care should be taken to avoid harsh solvents when cleaning, as the white o-rings are painted on.
AmeriGlo offers the best selection (with the possible exception of MMC) of night sights available. Quality is first-rate, as the sights combine Trijicon lamps with white PVC o-rings for markers. A combination of sight profiles, blade and notch widths, marker configurations, sizes and lamp colors, offers something for everyone. I really like their Operator sights in green/yellow!
XS Big Dot sights are high quality combat sights, designed for SHTF situations. Place that big white dot on center mass, and if your trigger control is good, you will hit your target, out to 30-feet or better. The night sight picture is pleasing and easily picked up. These are a specialty sight, and many will find them wanting for range use; conversely, others will master them for target use. More than any sight I know of, people like them or they don't.
Judy had the XSBD sights on her G19; between her and my son, they shot poorly with them. Both improved immediately when we switched to Trijicons. I was actually getting the hang of the XS', but found switching between them other sight styles annoying.
Lamp colors are often mixed today, combining the familiar green with yellow or orange, even red or blue tritium lamps. The brighter appearing green, always goes to the front... I personally like the two color set up, using yellow or orange rear lamps, with the green front. Note that green and yellow have a similar lamp-life, while other colors such as blue or red, may have half the lamp-life.
These are just a few night sights we've had first-hand experience with. There are other quality products, and some not-so-quality products out there to try. Some are innovative and novel. Some are known to be problematic. Any of the premium brands--ie., Novak, Heinie, Dawson Precision, Bomar, etc.---should be excellent.
