View Full Version : 40% PRICE INCREASE on MAGAZINES...NOT
I spoke with my regular supplier of Glock magazines this morning, inquiring about the new CDNN catalog's warning, "40% PRICE INCREASE IS COMING!!!".
I deal with CDNN frequently, but it appears the 40% warning is a scare tactic. My other source said there IS an increase in Glock magazine prices (I'm not clear whether it's already hit, or is on its way) BUT it will NOT be in the 40% range.
Note that CDNN raised their price recently from $16.99 to $18.99 and BudsGunshop went from $16 to $20, which probably reflects Buds' limited buying power as compared to CDNN. My gut instinct is that those prices already reflect the "perilous price increase".
My source was less than specific, but he did say that this hubbub regarding a big price increase has become A NATIONWIDE SCARE CREATED BY A FEW INACCURATE WEB POSTINGS, and that it has wiped out most supplier's stock of Glock mags for the time being.
My take, based on his comments is:
New stock will arrive within weeks, and it will be somewhat more expensive than the $15-16 average we're used to, but don't be manipulated into buying by warnings of a "40% increase".
I hope I'm right :dunno:
Glockmeister and Glockparts have both raised their prices thus far. They went from there old $20 per mag price to about $25. I have seen a similar price increase at some of my local sporting good stores as well.

You're not, although I wish you were.
One of my main distributors has just gone up just under $7 each. One of the largest wholesale distributors in the country is almost out of mags but said as soon as existing stocks are completely gone that they will be going up $5. I just bought about 140 Glock mags and got in just under the increase (12 hours).
Also, I tried to get more from LWD but the price had gone up that morning to 6 or 7 dollars more than I usually pay.
No, it's NOT a scam. They went up...a lot and although there may be a few handful of places on the net that haven't caught up yet, they will.

What I have on the LEO/Gov price sheet is $16.00 per magazine, dated February 2008.

there are still some nice deals on gunbroker and other sites, i got 3 33rd 4th gen new mags for only 26 per mag :)
Still $13.00 from Glock.
you can buy mags directly from Glock?
It seems like almost every major website has increased their price on Glock magazines. You can chose to believe it or not but I just received my shipment of mags (@ $15.99 each). :)
Yes, they have gone up, LAST WEEK.

That makes sound financial sense. I just have to convince my wife...
The fellow with whom I spoke may turn out to be "all wrong"...
BUT he warned against the "BUY IT NOW!" approach, saying companies who are raising their prices so much at this time are doing so to sucker guys who buy based on fear in response to a (supposedly) false scare.
Do what you think is best, of course, but I'm guessing the current CDNN prices already reflect the dreaded increase. If so, some of these current HIGH prices should come down a bit :dunno:
My two cents - - do what comes natural.
still good deals to be found on gunbroker.com. I bought 3 15rd Glock 31 mags on there a few days ago for $15.49 each. Not bad!

This is absolutely correct. I deal with five distributors and each has gone up between $5-7 per mag. There are still deals out there but they won't last long.

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on buying 3 more G23 mags (I have 2, and 5 seems like a good anti-zombie number) this summer, and I'm glad this thread caught my eye. OMB Express (http://www.ombexpress.com/product~sku~GA078.asp) has them for $17.99 which is the best price I could find (most places are $20-$25+ now). I went ahead and bought them. I figure that I was going to buy them anyway, so I might as well do it now and save some money.
Does anyone know why the prices went up?
Does anyone know why the prices went up?
Falling value of the U.S. dollar, mostly. These are made in Austria.
Increasing cost of materials. Plastic is petrol-based, and metal prices are going up due to Chinese demand.
Increasing transport costs. The cost of fuel needed to bring product to market is going up.
Not to mention, Glock Inc. ain't stoopid. They know intelligent Americans are leary of a Democrat President and Democrat Congress in 2008 - and will spend BIG now to arm themselves before the next incremental gun grab. Increasing Glock's wholesale prices now means lots of quick profit, sez me...
Brace yourselves. Before things get better, you may be glad you're so well armed...:whistling:

Damn, I just orderd last Weds.....
Remember an old saying, "todays prices are tomorrows bargins".
I got mine, G22 at $11.50 a few months ago.
I bought around 10 cases of ammo, .45 and .40 last summer and it came to $9.99 per box. That same ammo is at $24.00 per box now.

Still $13.00 from Glock.
Glock would not sell me any mags.

Ok here is part of the problem. Glock did raise its wholesale price $1.25 per mag. This is the price that bulk distributors pay. You have to purchase more than 1,000 at a time. There was a lot of talk at the Shot Show regarding a Dem President. The Glock price increase has caused a panic that will not go away anytime soon. Here is Springfield standard mags are $29.99 G-36 $39.99 and G-18 $59.99.
A friend that owns a gun store in Florida is planning to raise the price of all high cap mags every two weeks until the election. He has the money to buy 1,000 mags at a time. He was rich before he got into the gun business.
I remember the first gun show in Miami after the signing of the mag ban. Some dealers were selling Glocks with no mags and asking $200.00 per mag.
I recommend that you spend your money on high cap mags and high cap mag parts. The G-26, 27, 30 etc mags will be arround. I would also buy part sets. CA and others are trying to outlaw the sale of replacement parts. Who knows what will happen?

I've been doing that for years. I have at 10-20 mags for each Glock(HK, Beretta, AR, etc.) I own and some I don't.:wavey:

Excellent!!
For everyone reading this post, for years I have used a mag required formula that has proven itself. This gives you the basic number of mags you should have.
If you
CCW 3 mags per year
Age 20 - 30 2 mags per year
31 - 50 1.25 mags per year
51 - 70 3 mags per year
This is all based on you shooting 400 rounds per month and having no more than 2 children and a wife. If you do not shoot that much cut the number by the difference ratio. If you keep the gun loaded next to your bedside multiple by 0.25
The formula is generic for all types of mags, construction, and all locations.
I set up a very specific formula 20 years ago for several Federal agencies and it still works.

Uh, what?
I suggest having at least two hi-cap reload mags available (beyond the mag in your pistol), and having as many extras as you can afford, store and potentially use.
And I don't mean you need 20 mags per weapon. But magazines get LOST, DAMAGED and WORN OUT, so have enough to swap in as needed. If you're young and you LOVE your weapon, try to accumulate enough to last a long, long while.
Also, if you compete I think you need at least 5.
Beyond that, for an "armed emergency of lengthy duration", one in the pistol and four extra hi-caps means "adequately armed" to me.
They can be considered an investment. Prices will always go up. Look what ammo has done over the last year and a half. They warned us every time before it went up. And it did. I remember when I bought my first Glock back in 89 or 90.
G22, the mags were $8. The next thing I know, the gun ban was here. Now they were $80. Before it was over, G19 mags were like $150 for a used mag. My feeling is buy now and put them away if you don't need them all. If there is another ban, you may have a small fortune.
And I don't mean you need 20 mags per weapon.[/B]
You don't need 20 mags but it's nice for the ones you train with. When I take training, I take 30 loaded mags for my G19. That usually gets me through the day.
If there is another ban, you may have a small fortune.
I don't disagree, but think BEYOND the last so-called weapons ban. Next time, they may try to make it illegal to sell to another person, or worse, they could try to declare Hi-caps CONTRABAND! :wow: Then it'd be a criminal offense to even POSSESS them.
In either case, you can't legally make a dime from your investment. There was a time when the government confiscated GOLD BULLION, proclaiming, "it is now illegal for a US citizen to own gold". Keep an open mind. There's no limit to what these bastards will attempt in the gradual disarming of American citizens. I'm not being inflammatory. Just observant.
Also, THIRTY MAGAZINES for a pistol class!? Man, I'd take ten, maybe, and a mag loader...

LE agencies can, not individuals. But it's always good to know the straight from the factory price so you know how much your retailer is marking them up.
you can buy mags directly from Glock?
I just received the latest CDNN catalog.
It's full of "BUY NOW! BEAT THE MAG RUSH!" warnings.
This supports my hypothesis, that Glock's price increase is not really due to increasing manufacturing and transport costs.
It's really about MAKING A QUICK PROFIT ON HAPLESS AMERICAN CUSTOMERS WHO FEEL COMPELLED TO STOCKPILE NOW, FOR FEAR OF A LEFTIST GOVERNMENT taking control in November.
This is a manipulation. It is not "Glock PERFECTION" (a bullcrap marketing ploy from the gitgo). I'm beginning to regret my investment in Glock products, and my exclusion of others...:steamed:
