I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the G19. That way when someone is considering a G19 they can find this thread and read comments by owners and users of the G19, without weeding through alot of other posts.

I have had the following handguns over the years:

G17 (1st Gen.)
Taurus P92
S&W Model 10
Colt King Cobra
Browning .22
Sig P229
G23 (3rd. Gen.)
S&W 3913
Kel Tec P11
Beretta 84
Bersa CCW
Ruger LCP

All these have been great guns, but I think the G19 is by far my favorite. The G19 makes for a good CCW (when attire permits), a excellent home defense weapon, and a fun range gun. It is very accurate and reliable. The recoil with the G19 is very light allowing for faster follow up shots. Parts and accessories are cheaper and in abundant supply. There are numerous websites dedicated to glock function and maintenance, that have allowed me to learn how to work on my own gun to get it to where it is PERFECTION for me. I have put on night sights, LWD 3.5 connector, and hogue grip.

On occasion I have contemplated selling or trading my G19, but never went through with it. I just can not do it. My G19 will always be the gun I can not do without. There is just something comforting knowing it is there if needed.

So, please post why you feel that the G19 is a must have weapon; why it is your go to gun; ETC.

Edited: I have changed my mind. I am now a G23 & G27 fan.

It fits my hand perfectly, it is more accurate than me, and ammo is cheap. Modern JHP's are quite deadly.

The G19 is a suberb pistol,so is the G23 and G17. Anyone will be my front runner. I cannot fault anyone of the above.

I've been wanting a g19 in OD for a long time...wish I had something I could trade for it...It would look great next to my G26

ps- ammo prices drive my gun purchases, G19 is the cheapest.

Ok the new guy will chime in on this one... Im NOT an accomplished pistol shooter yet... i have several 9mm's a 1911 and several .22's. Rifles and shotguns also... at my local range i rented a Glock 19C took it online and fired it... LOVE at first trigger pull, deadly accurate and oh so comfortable.. i now am waiting on mine from Glock i ordered it with adjustable sights and compensated... i have never picked up a gun and had what i consider it to be a perfect match..........

There is already like three posts similar to this one that I had reply to but what the heck, I don't get tire of talking about my G19. Besides all of the things already mentioned, mine after almost 10 years by my side, still looks and shoots like when I first opened that black tappeware container (execpt for some minor marks due to the tactical M3 light). I cannot think of any other product that I could say has lasted me that long in the same conditions. I know I can trust my family to that "little ugly plastic gun that could". It will always be with me or one of my sons forever. THE ONLY PISTOL I OWN, THE ONLY PISTOL I NEED.:smoking:

The G19 is without a doubt the most size-efficient 9mm of all. Very compact, yet holds 16 rounds (18 if you don't mind an extension sticking out the bottom). You lose nothing from the shorter barrel, either. Years ago a friend of mine chrono'd rounds out of a G19 and a 5" Beretta 92FS, and velocities were actually higher with the Glock! Given it was a lot smaller and lighter than the 92 yet held the same ammo, to me it's a no-brainer which is the better weapon. Heck, I still can't understand why it isn't the standard US military-issue service pistol!

I love the 19 for the same reasons everyone else likes it.

Fun to shoot.

Accurate as any gun I have ever shot.

Cheaper on the pocket book

Good weapon

perfect size

I just plain like the gun!

I bought a nice Italian Leather holster from Blackhawk and it conceals nicely even with a baggy Tee Shirt. I was talking to a cop for over 10 minutes in a parking lot (know him personally) about shooting and he never noticed I was carrying and I had a white tee on. I usually wear a dark one because I think it hides it better. My wife never knows unless she asks me or puts her arm around me.

I can get to the gun and present the weapon in a smooth fluid motion.

The holster is nice because there is a mag holder attached to it. I have practiced changing mags and it is a fast set up! I hope I never need over 30 + rounds but I have a double mag pouch I can put on my other side and carry another 30.

Check it out!

http://www.blackhawk.com/product_image.asp?P=4202&N=1

I have a BH Serpa as well but I am fond of leather! It conceals better as it hugs the waist.

My 19 is not my #1 carry gun but it could be...:wavey:

The 19 just flat out rocks!

I carry a G19 as my primary CCW. It replaced a XDSC40. I consider it to be the ultimate package of concealability, lightweight, accuracy and firepower.
Its comfortable to shoot all day or carry all day. I live in Texas and mostly wear cargo shorts and T shirts and I have no problems at all concealing it. Conversely, if I wanted to go shoot 500+ rounds at the range its got enough comfort factor to not eat my hands up like my XDSC40 did. Its a proven package of durability and reliability and a great all-round pistol IMO.

I can't quite nail down what the difference is, as the Glock website suggests the dimensions are the same, but the 19 feels much, much better than the 17 does. It's almost like it's a different angle, though it doesn't appear to be. Strangely, my GF who has much smaller hands prefers the 17!

I just like the midsized glocks best. I think the subs are rediculously short in the grip. Only thing I don't like about 9mm in general, and this will sound nuts, but I would prefer just a tad more pop, a more powerful feel when fired. If there was a midsized .45ACP I would have gotten that. The .40 is not enough of a step up from 9mm to justify getting the 23 so I got the 19. I realize although I claim the kick is too minimal, I understand the advantage of that, obviously.

I love the fact that the Glock 19 is the most versatile handgun I have ever owned for conceal carry and target shooting. The G19 has great magazine capacity, accuracy, and is compact enough to conceal well under a t-shirt.

Here are the handguns I have owned in descending order:
G17 - Sold because I wanted something smaller and figured since every one on this forum raved about the G19s grip it would be more accurate.

G19 - Sold to a very nice guy who works at the NRA museum because I thought accuracy was all about tight fitting metal guns and the trigger was horrible.

S&W M&P9 FS - I fired one of these at a local range and I thought it was every thing that the Glock 19 was supposed to be. I learned that I was sadly mistaken after a while and ended up hating the trigger, the grips (all 3 backstraps), and the accuracy. Despite all of this I did not intend to sell this one initially because I figured these problems could be corrected. I ended up having to sell this because I was really strapped for cash and needed the money quick so I ended up selling this one to a nice fellow from this forum and do not regret it for a second.

Sig P226R - My favorite Full Sized Handgun. I am still in love with this gun's SA trigger, accuracy, fit, and grip. I shoot this thing better than any handgun I have picked up in my 21 years of existence. I can make one ragged hole with this thing all day long. The problem with this gun is it's size, weight, DA trigger pull, and durability of the finish is not so good. I will probably never sell this one at this point but its still no substitute for the Glock 19.

Glock 19 - After all this time of renting, trying out alot of my friends guns, and owning two other guns I came back to the Glock 19. I realized it has an amazing consistent trigger, accuracy, size, durability, capacity, and is just perfect. The only problem I have with the G19 as far as ergonomics goes is my middle finger is really pushed up against the trigger guard. I may eventually modify that or have someone else modify it. I will never ever again sell my Glock 19.

What's not to like? I did a lot of research and trial and error to choose a carry gun. I like the ususal things, but my 2 main reasons
1) Perfect size: small enough to carry but big enough to shoot
2) Doesn't rust -as a concealed carrier in Texas sweat is always an issue, and it's even corrosive to aluminum and stainless steel (I have a lightweight .38 snubby that is a sad testament to that fact.)

I have told many people that if I could only own one gun it would be a G19
God-what a tragic circumstance that would only allow me to own one gun!:crying:

The 19 was my first Glock. I chose it because it seemed just the right size. I fell in love with it the first time I took it to the range. I liked the consistent trigger pull and the pull weight was right for me and crisp enough.

I like the G19 because it is small enough to be carried comfortably all day yet large enough to fight with.

Initially I though I preferred the G17 as the G19 kind of squished my fingers together, however, through training I discovered it was me needing to master the gun and not the gun itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bought it in 1993 for $409 new out the door w/5 high cap mags, thought it might make a good first gun for my yet to be born son. Threw it on the top shelf of my closet and forgot about it. Then a couple years down the road my carry gun broke and I had to ship it off. So I figured I put a couple rounds through the G19 and carry it for a couple weeks. I never put it back, my carry gun came in and I sold it. Then a couple years later my wife wanted to learn how to shoot a handgun and keep one close by at home for her while I was out of town a couple nights a week and I bought a new G30(to upgrade and man-up) for carry. That G19 stayed in the handgun safe by the bed until I took my son out for his first range trip as a participant instead of an observer. He shot it great! I noticed that the tritium sights had died, (14 years old). So I shipped it off to Novaks for a new tritium front sight and a new wide notch rear. Just got back from the range to verify the sights and I remembered why this is my favorite gun. This thing runs on anything and shoots great and fast, perfect size for anything. Carried it all day to run errands, it rides in a Milt Sparks Ex Companion and compared to my G30 I feel like I'm not carrying anything. I'm going to find another G19 for the safe, and my son is gonna have to find his own G19 cause this one's going back on the road for equal time in the holster. A fellow agent of mine once commented that he considered the G19 to our generation what the Colt Commander was to our father's generation. The ultimate carry gun! Glock 19

I carried my personal G19 on duty as a LEO for 12 years and only recently have switched to a department issued G22. In all of those years, and I've shot it a LOT, it's never malfunctioned. If not for preferring to get the department's pistol all beat up from day-day carry, I'd gladly go back to my
G19. I can't stand this G22! Now the 19's my off duty/bedside gun.

I just bought a Glock 19 which arrived Monday. I bought it on the strength of threads like this after first buyibg a Keltec P-11.

I'm one of them who said he'd never own a plastic gun, and currently own 14 1911 pistols as well as nearly 100 assorted other pistols or revolvers.

I've fired 200 rounds through the Glock now and can't get enough of it! This pistol eats anything (It's a Goat?), shoots to point of aim well and isn't at all painful while doing it - something that cannot be said for the P-11.

I dumped the factory adjustable sights in favor of Heinies without white anything or tritium. I shoot black sights best and knew what the 19 had before it came from Bud's. (Turns out I paid too much in light of the prices in a couple of Glock stores, but at least they had one for me).

Why do I like it? Well, it's just the most comfortable easiest to get along with auto pistol I've ever fired and I'll be fully confident in carrying it loaded. After six years of cocked and locked 1911 pistols it's a relief to not need to think about the remote chance of my safety being clicked off if I bump something or catch it somehow getting into a car. and it feels good in my hand so long as 16 rounds are aboard.

Ultra reliable
More than combat accurate
Will eat any ammo available
Simple to operate
Concealable
Armorer work extremely easy
Corrosion resistance second to none
High capacity vs other design of similar size
Balance lends itself to quick handling
Parts relatively cheap
Most widely distributed design worldwide
Perceptible, short trigger reset
9mm offers the most variety of ammo worldwide

Im 5'10" 185 and can't CC the G19.
I have a friend who has one who I trade off with at the range.
It is such a great shooting pistol, and holds plenty of ammo.

After shooting the 19 my 27 feels snappy as heck.
I put up with it for a CC pistol, but my next pistol purchase will be the 19.
A polished extended ported barrel would be my only modification.

I have smaller hands and arthritis. The G22 is a bit large for my reach and the 40cal recoil really hurts my wrists.
Our department has around 40 of these pistols. Of course maintanence plays a big role, but far too many of them have funtional problems at the range. Every qualifying session we'll have 5-6 recoil rods break and it goes on from there.
I guess I'm just not a believer in the 40cal round when it comes to terminal ballistics vs. problems for the pistol.

It also points well, I can acquire a target much quicker with it than other handguns I have shot.

Haven't learned to conceal it well yet though, have to try something other than IWB... can't get used to it with my Galco.

In my opinion the G19 is the best all-around Glock. It's the right size, being neither too big for CCW nor too small for accurate shooting. I think it's better than the original G17, since with the full-size all you really get is two more rounds in the mag.

Geez, you guys are making me want to get one now. I've had four in the past, but all were eventually sold when I needed money. I just figured I could always buy another Glock. I guess I had better do it soon before the ambi mag catch becomes standard on all Glocks.

I didn't appreciate Glock perfection until I recently shot my new Ruger LCP .380 pistol. That thing jammed almost every mag with Remington UMC FMJ... shot 100rds 9 FTF. Jammed only once with 200 rds of Winchester FMJ though.

After shooting that little pistol, G19 felt heavy in my hands but the recoil was like shooting hyper velocity rounds ouf of .22LR pistol. I was hitting the bullseye after bullseye at 7 yds.

Ruger LCP made me really appreciate my Glock 19! 6,000+ rounds 0 jam so far!

The price was good, too. On sale, with a gift certificate from my son, a $15.00 gift card from a truck dealership for taking a test drive, then add 'mandatory Maryland lock' ($30.00), then tax. . . my G19 left Bass Pro for less than $480.00

I just traded two Browning Hi Powers that I've owned, liked and shot for years, for two G19s (well sort of - actually bought the Glocks first, both used 2nd Gens, for under $400 each) and after deciding I liked 'em sold the BHPs (for $400 each -)

The move to Glocks was an intellectual decision after years of emotional resistance when renting them at ranges (mainly due to the grip angle.) But I finally realized that (1) the history of demonstrated Glock reliability, (2) the durability of the finish for IDPA holster wear and for concealed carry in the summer in the midwest, (3) the low cost (relatively, compared to, say, SIG or HK), (4) the wide availability and remarkably low cost of parts, including magazines (again relative to other brands,) (5) the ability to swap parts (like mag releases and trigger/connector pieces) without having to worry about gunsmith fitting and tolerances, and (6) the enormous range of available accessories (like holsters and sights, if you want 'em), all pointed to a "why are you resisting this move" decision.

Having done so, I must say that (A) the shootability and accuracy of the G19 is more than satisfactory, (B) the grip angle is something I'll just have to get used to, (C) the low cost of parts means I already have more mags than I had for the Brownings , (D) the low cost of parts and easy installation means I will soon find the combination of trigger parts that I can both carry comfortably and shoot best, (E) despite having technical overall dimensions about the same as my Makarov, the thickness of the G19 means it doesn't really conceal as well as the Mak (for ME, that is - the Mak is as wide as the Glock only across the safety, while the Glock is that wide everywhere, including the bottom of the grip) so I'm looking for a G26 to carry :whistling:, and (F) overall, I DON'T know what I was waiting for. :dunno:

To me, a G-19 is like a Winchester 1873, JMB's 1911 and A-5 designs, H&K's P7, an H&H's SxS, and the AK-47, etc.. In short, a firearm whose design exceeded all reasonable expectations of its designer and the consumer. A classic which all other similar firearms are measured by or in which newer designers try to exceed.

The G19 is the perfect size, an excellent CCW choice, one of the best fighting guns at any price, and the best gun to ever wear the Glock logo on the slide.

It is also the only gun I own that I feel compelled to own 2 identical guns. I have a G19 for training, and I keep it in a bug-out bag with mags for the AR and AK. I have another G19 that is for CCW use, which is in mint condition and very rarely shot.

cole
05-03-2008, 01:17
I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the G19. That way when someone is considering a G19 they can find this thread and read comments by owners and users of the G19, without weeding through alot of other posts.
...

PS: please keep your comments directed to the G19. I do not want this to become a G19 vs. ? thread.

What I have:
G23, G27, G19, G21sf, Kimber 1911 Target, Browning Buckmark .22lr

What I've had (abbridged)
HKUSP40c, HKUPS45c, Ruger 9mm, ParaO .45acp 3.5" LDA, Springfield Mil-Spec .45acp 5", XD9Tach, Kahr MK9, Kahr P9, Ruger GP100, G17, G26

As a total overall package, I think the Glock 19 is about as good as it gets. There are compromises, sure, but you get the 9mm in a mid-size gun that's great for plinking, home defense and CCW. It's the true all-around Glock. And, what I like about Glocks are they work, they are simple and that parts are both plentiful and cheap.

The Glock 19 really does everything well, though excels at nothing really. I prefer the .40sw to 9mm, and the .45acp to both by far, but 9mm is good enough. The G26/27 conceals best, but the G19/23 is good enough. The G17/22, as full-sized guns, hold more rounds, have a longer sight picture and have less recoil (as they are bigger guns), but the G19/23, as a mid-sized platform, is good enough. So, for me, the G19 does everything "good enough".

If I could have one 100% stock Glock, and only one gun period, it would be the G19. Honestly, where I am now, what I've learned over the years I like and what I now know, if I could start again, I'd buy just the G19, have just the one all-around self-defense gun and invest/save all that money I've spent on the others and be just as happy and feel just as protected/safe.

All those praises of the G19 said, my G23, pushing 180gr loads, is my current favorite "all-around" Glock shooter. I just think it's hard to beat the 180gr .40sw in that size platform.

I also agree with this, but I would add durability to the list. It's pretty darn hard to wear one out.

Good sum-up. Why don't you like the 165 gr .40 rounds, Cole? Did you have a bad experience with the HKs?

Good sum-up. Why don't you like the 165 gr .40 rounds, Cole? Did you have a bad experience with the HKs?

I think the 155gr/165gr .40sw self-defense loads are too "snappy", and their recoil does not as well match that of typical target loads. I think these lighter, higher velocity and higher energy .40sw loads are where the .40sw gets some of its reputation for greter recoil over the 9mm. The 180gr .40sw recoil is less snappy to me, more of the preferred "push" in recoil that does not want to lift the front of the barrel up as much.

Also, I prefer the overall performance of the 180gr loads in testing. For a number of reasons, I favor weight over velocity in service handgun calibers. So, I prefer the heaviest bullet in each caliber actually (147gr 9mm, 180gr .40sw and 230gr .45acp). It's a persoanl preference.

The HKs are great guns. Better built than the Glock. But, parts are pricey and I could not adjust to the trigger. The LEM is nice, but keeps the hammer spring under constant load, and I don't prefer that.

I will be training/qualifying with the Glock 19 and an AR (Probably an LMT). In the course of this I will be putting thousands of rounds downrange.
The Glock is also my CCW firearm of choice. The pistol is tough, accurate enough and concealable. Parts are readily available and inexpensive.
I've used/carried just about every brand handgun out there at one time or another. There are more quality handguns on the market than ever in the history of firarms. For my particular usage, the Glock 19 is the stand-out choice.

Absolutely. I have one of each and am quite fond of both for most of the reasons already covered. Two weeks ago, I got a Ghost 3.5 connector for my G19 and shot it yesterday for the first time with this setup. Much better and not too light.. which is good for a defensive sidearm. Today, I got the same connector for my G23 and will try that out probably this coming weekend.

The G19 and the G23 are both great carry pieces. My G19 has a slight edge because I shoot it better and it has never once failed to feed or fire. That and the fact that you can run anything through it, including +P+ loads makes it a fine carry arm.

Get one of each. That way you're covered with the 9mm and the .40S&W.

I like the versatility of the 19. It has also just become that good 'ole friend that no one else can match up to. I shoot it better then anything I own or have borrowed, etc. I have never, ever had an issue. You can throw a light on it at home, a laser at the range, or a holster anywhere else.

It is the one gun, I will never get rid of, it is the one that if I could only have one, it would be on my hip or in my hand.

I’ve been shooting Glocks for about 5 or 6 years but I never owned one (just a few friends that have them). I just got my first Glock at the beginning of the year, it was a 21. I have no problem shooting it, I’m 6’5” and float between 195 and 210 depending on the scale, and have large hands too. I can easily handle the gun. About a month ago I picked up my 19 in anticipation of my stimulus check (thank you Ben Bernanke and company) and with plans for CCW. I have not been able to put the thing down. It feels so good in my hand, easy recoil management, and cheap to shoot. I can get way more rounds off much more accurately than with my .45. Like it’s been said before…I LOVE this gun. I shoot it and I have this ear to ear grin on my face every time. Usually that’s the response when I shoot an AR or something, but with the 19 I have the same reaction. I even feel more comfortable with it as my HD weapon over the 21, besides the 12 gauge of course. I just can’t say enough about this thing.

The Beretta 92 FS was my first pistol and I was happy with it overall. That is, until I demo'd a G-19 at my local range. I was more accurate with the G-19 my first time than I was with the Beretta that I've been using for the last few years and I had a tighter grouping with it. Granted, I'm an occassional range shooter and use the gun primarly for HD. The reason for the demo, was because GA just expanded it's CC Laws to include more places and as such, I wanted a good "all-arounder". That is, a good CC, HD and range gun and as all of you know, the G-19 fits that bill perfectly. Now, I still think the Beretta is a better looking gun :whistling:, but far too bulky for CC. I want the best of both world, so I'm trading the Beretta for a G-19. Can't wait to get it.

Well, it wasn't my first GLOCK purchase...that one took the shape of a 21C which I love. Just .45 acp murders my wallet! Compared to 9mm luger ammo.

Now, the first time I fired my good friend's 19C, I have to admit, I wasn't all that impressed and swore I sucked shooting it(Less than moderate grouping in my opinion). I was told otherwise by the owner and to give it a chance. Boy, I am glad I did...because the second time around at 7 yds indoors, I was banging off shots that we're touching or going through the same hole! It took some time, but I've finally landed one of my own! My first shot on an SSO-9 blue man target was right in the middle red circle! I did a slow fire 5 shot group and they all touched.

Anyway, I'm with the rest of you, it's priced right, will go bang EVERY TIME, eats anything(I loved the GOAT comment earlier in this thread LMAO) is comfortable and conceals VERY easily! You can't beat it!!!!!!

I'm glad I'm on the dark side!

[EDIT] here is a picture or two of it's very first targets. Using fiocchi and some 147 gr hollow points(which all 125 went right through)
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b237/JZ06/19Ckilledthelittleguy.jpg
15 rd rapid fire. not the greatest, but not the worst. my former $1500 wilson cqb wouldn't do that at 7 yds(that is if it didn't jam with steeply nosed hollow points LOL)

Well, I hate to tell this, but I sold my G19. I went shooting with a friend and he let me try his Ruger SP101. Man, was I impressed; I shot it better than any semiauto that I have ever shot. He let me borrow it for a few days to see how it carried, once again I was impressed. I concealed it better than the G19. So it was a no brainer for me. Since I do not have the resources to buy a new gun I had to sell the Glock to finance the SP101. I know several of you will think I am crazy, but I really think I made the best choice for me. The G19 is a great gun, but the SP101 just works better for me. Plus, I do not subscribe to the 5 shots is not enough theory. I think the loaded gun and speed strip will be fine for me. The SP101 gives me more ammo options also.

Only thing I don't like about 9mm in general, and this will sound nuts, but I would prefer just a tad more pop, a more powerful feel when fired. If there was a midsized .45ACP I would have gotten that.

Check out the G30 or G36. They are very similar size the the G19/G23. G30 is a little thicker but same size otherwise. Recoil is still very low for a .45 in a small package. Same if not less than my 5" 1911.

I have a 19 and a 23. I have no recoil problems with the 23, but the 19 is just more fun to shoot and is cheaper to feed. I qualified for my ccw with the 19 and carry it. The 23 stays in the bedroom as home protection backup for my Remington 870.

Hi all,

Well, for me, the Glock 19 is about the best balanced pistol I have ever held and fired. Fully loaded, it weighs less that most other empty semi-auto pistols, and as wonderful as the balance is, it makes it very easy for me to shoot well. I am far more accurate in combat shooting with the G-19 than any other weapon I carry. I originally got rid of my 9mm Glocks because the SD loads available back then were not as good/consistent as what is available now. Thanks to the Ranger RA9T and RA9TA, I have NO FEAR of round failure...If I do my part...any more than in any of my other carry calibers.

All in all, a really great gun and the one I will most likely be carrying off duty.

Glad to be back among the G-19 owners!

Take care all...

For me, it's the perfect combination of size, weight and balance.

I've owned and sold a few Glocks of the years. G17, G19, G22C and G23. I didn't mind the full size G17 and G22C but I have never been a fan of the .40 S&W round.

Eventually one by one, I sold my Glock handguns and the only one I truely regret selling was the G19. :crying:

My very first autoloader was a Glock 19. It is still the most comfortable gun I have ever shot. I took my wife and daughter for training with a Glock 19 (the first time they ever shot a pistol) and they were amazed at how accurate they could shoot with it (as was the instructor, a retired NJ State Police Detective - he wrote "The Family From Hell" on our final target and then signed it for us...every shot was center chest and head. I later had the target framed. Whenever I go to the range, one of the guns I always bring is my Glock 19. The other guns get rotated buu not my G19. It's also my nightstand piece.

I just bought a G19OD and haven't received it yet, hopefully this week. Since I am new to hand guns, my main considerations were: 1. Glock has a great reputation for dependability at a reasonable price. 2. It fit my hand. 3. Glocks are relatively easy to strip, clean and work on in general, unlike some "finer" guns that are more like Swiss watches (aka COMPLICATED). 4. The 19 is a good compromise gun in terms of size versus the full sized 17 and the sub-compact 26 (I do not yet have a CCP). 5. 9mm is not unreasonably expensive. 6. 9mm will make holes in paper and once I am more accurate will be very adequate for HD, etc.

I hope this is helpful to any other NOOBs considering various hand guns.

I love mine because right out of the box I have hit nothing but center mass on paper and it has not failed me once. It eats whatever I feed it FMJ, JHP, even alternating FMJ and JHP in the same magazine.. It's always hungry. I love how light it is when it is fully loaded with my 124 gr. Golden Sabers and because of the night sights it is the first gun I grab when there is a bump in the night, granted to get to my bigger ones. I just bought a Kimber 1911 and never heard of a gun having a break in period, but I know of them now. And you know what my Glock 19 is more accurate than my Kimber, haven't shot a lot of 1911s to be fair though. Going to buy another 19 tomorrow and get night sights separate and have them installed.

I've tried all the Glocks and several high end, big money 1911s. Each gun has it's virtues. But hands done, the G19 is the best gun on the planet. Here are my reasons:
#1: RELIABLE...goes Bang everytime, and I mean everytime.
#2 Accurate...as in same hole accurate at 25 feet, 3 inchers at 25 yds.
#3 Fun and Easy to CCW, EDC...easy to holster.
#4 I use it to compete in IDPA, which performs better than all the rest.
#5 Easy to Clean.
#6 Cost is affordable.
#7 Cycles, Indexes better than all the other Glocks.
#8 Modifiable, but stock rocks, too
#9 Love the way it looks and feels in my hand
#10 My gunsmith, and competition coach reccomend it.

And if you don't agree with all of the above, I will fight you.....lol.

By the way, my set up is the G19c with a stock barrel which is for IDPA, and the compensated barrel for range and Everyday Carry. And Glock night sights which are very bright on the night stand, and the white circle does real fine on the brightest of brightest days.

I've only had to use my CCW once, but I know that my G19 gets the job done. While hiking, a coyote attacked my dog, Sam Dog (who is my bestest buddy.) I drew my weapon from my holster, and fired put three rounds into the coyote on the fly. Sam walked away because the G19 is all of the above and more!!!!

+1 on all the positives of the G19. My heart tells me the 1911A1 and the P35, but my brain says the 19.

It's a perfect combination of size, concealability, capacity, accuracy as well as the avalability of a veritable cornucopia of parts, holsters, accessories and the like. I saw a lot of them in the desert. They are virtually indestructible and the tales of their longevity are almost unbelievable. I'm never without mine. It's a fast, pointy little package for quick stuff and with +2 base plates that's a lot of firepower.

the 19 is just about the perfect size 9mm glock. that's why.

It fits my hand perfectly, it is more accurate than me, and ammo is cheap. Modern JHP's are quite deadly.

Can't be anymore to the point than the above. Well said. :wavey:

I have went from the 22 to the 19 and never looked back!

The Glock 19/23 frame fits my grip a lot better and just feel overall more comfortable with the Glock 19

Plus you can't beat the price of 9mm ammo

Well, I have been away for awhile from this thread that I started so I figured I would upate my opinions on the G-19. While I still feel that it is a good gun, I recently bought a G23 Gen4. My job is switching from the S&W Mod.10 to G23 Gen4, so after attending a firearms instructor transition class I fell in love with the G23. The Gen4 just fits my hand so much better than the older models, and it brought me back to Glock.

That being said, with the two being the same except for the caliber you can't go wrong with either one.

Still trying to found a Gen 2 here in sunny Miami for a decent price.

I was issued a G 19 (serial # BW047) in early 1988 as a duty weapon. The weapon was carried for 6 years and then it was retirement. I guess it is a sentimental thing with the G 19 but IMHO the best 9mm shooter Glock makes. I still have a G 19 (Gen 3)and it is sometimes a concealed carry.

I like my glock 19 so good, that i cut the grip frame of my 17, 24 down to hold a 15 round magazine now all my glocks feel like a 19 it feels so good in my hand that I cut all my other glocks down also

My glock 19 is my favorite gun after grip reduction by cold bore customs. Reasons its my favorite. Reliability, Shoots great, fits my hand perfectly after reduction, perfect size for range and concealed carry, light wieght.

I own a 2nd & a 3rd Generation 19 and couldn't think of a gun that fits my hand better, It's reliable, concealable and best of all 9mm ammo is cheaper than 40 or 45.

It's the quintessential high capacity 9. Simple, reliable, easy to service, indestructible, serious longevity. Accurate, eats anything, really absorbs abuse. Saw a lot of these in the desert and they just never broke down. And if they did, the average joe can fix it with one simple tool. Ultimately customizeable. A good, fast, accurate, reliable fighting pistol. I mentioned reliable, right?

No post on this for over 10 months so I better chime in. Bought a G19 three years ago and it's the one I wouldn't part with. Would like a 26 and 29SF for the collection, but the 19 is a keeper for sure.
If Glock made a single stack 9 like the Kel-Tec PF9, I'd have to buy two or three. I guess they have all the business they can keep up with.

Wow...somebody ressurected a pretty old G19 thread here...:wow:.

Why do I like the G19?

1. Size
2. Concealability
3. Proven Glock reliability
4. Capacity
5. Accuracy
6. Ergonomics
7. Price
8. It's just damn sexy, plus you can go through airport security with one:rofl:.

Footnote on #7: Not TODAY's prices! Saw one last night on gunbroker.com with over an hour left and it was going for $1005! That's crazy, but I guess if they're being banned tomorrow, or next month, then maybe it's worth it. FWIW I paid $399 for my first one, and not much over that for my most recent G19. I've had Gen2, Gen3, and Gen4 and like them all!

Perfect size and feel. I'm one of the few who liked the 3rd Gen when they first came out. When the Clinton ban expired I got the G19 and it's been hanging around with me every since then.

To say that I love my G19 would be an understatement - I carried one overseas and we trained on them extensively.... to put it simply, I know it works, can be depended on, will run reliably WITHOUT fail and trust my life to it. It's big enough for "duty use", carried it in a tan blackhawk serpa or a safariland (forgot model number) if I wanted a light on it; yet also small enough for concealed/discreet carry. I've owned a number of glocks (bought/traded), and currently run a G19 and G26 (summer gun) - you WILL NOT be disappointed.... "you're gonna like the way you shoot, I guarantee it" LOL

My prefered carry loads are Winchester Ranger/PDX1 in 124+P or Gold Dots also in 124+P, I like bonded rounds. The Federal BPLE round, old one in 115 +P+ is cool too.... The weapon though is as accurate as you are, and I can shoot it and group with it as well as my Kimber(s), they're just awesome, not really much else you can say...

P.S.
While I LOVE my Berettas and admire the CZ's, they're just not the Glock 19, not saying it's better or worse, it's just different - it has its own personality.... a fan of the 26 as well, but again, not the same as a Glock 19.

Compared to other striker fired polymer pistols it is lighter, smaller and i love the grip when its an RTF2. I also like the simplicity of use. Im not crazy about the trigger though.

The one I have now is the fourth one I've had. Not going through this again just to come back to it. Also have a G23. second one. All gen3.
