Surefire G2 with some decent scope rings or flashlight mount.

Non-rail-equipped rifle?
Surefire G2 held in your hand (there are a few strap-on mounts that go around handguards) or a piece of rail attached to the handguard, or the front sight mount.
I use a Surefire 6P or a G3 (G2 on steroids) in a Vltor Scout, which is inexpensive yet high quality, on a rail system (issued M4).
+1 on the Surefire G2 light.
The G3 is a 3 cell and will put out more lumens of white light and also run a bit longer but requires more spece on the rail and two mount rings instead on one.
I have a click on tailcap mounted on mine which costs more than the actual light.
The standard tailcaps work just fine.

TRL1 Weapon light (http://www.lapolicegear.com/sttlwe.html)
It needs a shorty rail at least.

The G3 works fine in a single Scout mount, if you have it "balanced" i.e the mount not all the way at one end of the light.

I'll second what others have already recommended. For $70 you can pick up a Surefire G2L(LED)which will give you 12 hours run time at 80 lumens on one set of batteries. If you happen to already own a G2(or any other Surefire that uses the original 6P bulbs)you should be able to find Surefire LED conversion units for $40. Well worth the upgrade over the standard incandescent bulbs. Superior shock resistance(no need to keep replacement bulbs on hand, ever again:cool:.), battery life(12hrs.LED vs.2hrs.incandescent), and a boost of 20 lumens make it a no-brainer IMHO. An Vltor Scout Mount should run you about $35 IIRC. Which brings your total investment to about $105, give or take a few bucks. Not too bad for imminently viable gear. I've had zero problems with my G2L mounted via a Daniel Defense offset mount(Vltor scout mount wouldn't clear my Tango Down rail covers). Here's to hoping at least some of that helped.

Surefire G2.
I prefer the G2 LED though (it's about $65).

A $520 light is the "least expensive"? Or did you not read the OP?

Check on ebay. I got some nice lights on there. Prices ranging from high to low.
There are commonly some fellows coming back from the "sandbox" selling off their equipment, which although used, can be quite serviceable.
