View Full Version : Converting Glock .40 to 9mm for USPSA

I have a Glock 23 .40 Cal. that had been by primary LEO duty weapon for the past 10 years. I recently switched to the Springfield XD45 as my primary duty weapon. (it fits my hand better) I also plan to stoot USPSA L10 with the XD45. The Glock 23 is now sitting in my safe. I thought of selling the Glock 23, but as an after thought am considering dropping in a 9mm conversion barrel and a magazine extender so that the grip fills my hand better. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not looking for more magazine capacity, only a longer butt.
I looked at the USPSA rules for Limited 10 division and it appears that I can use a replacement barrel as long as the barrel is the same length as the stock barrel. Would this allow me to use the 9mm conversion barrel in limited 10 as long as the length is the same? Also, would I be in violation of the L10 rules by extending the grip length?
Even if I can't use the converted Mod. 23 for competition, I can use it for a cheaper to shoot practice and carry gun as well as being able to shoot lead reloads.
Thanks
Randy
Randy, I believe you are going to run into a couple of issues.
I think you need to shoot .40 Cal as a minimum for L10. Also, to shoot major power factor you need to make 165 PF. If you are shooting a 124gn 9mm bullet, it would need to be traveling at a minimum of 1300 FPS.
The next question is, can you shoot Production. In my opinion, the rules say no as glock does not produce a gun that says G35 and shoots 9mm. You may be okay at local matches, but don't expect to get away with this at any major matches.

If you put a 9 mm barrel conversion in your 23, the gun is not legal in Production because the converson barrel is heavier (due the increased outside diameter of the barrel) than a stock glock or after market 9 mm barrel.
I think the gun would be legal in Limited 10, Limited or Open, but 9 mm would be scored minor not major. Therefor you would always be on the short end of the scoring stick. You must shoot a .40 caliber or larger to me scored major.

Not true in open, I shoot a G34 @ major PF and it is scored major.
121gr @ 1400 = 169PF

I believe the OP was referring to shooting in Limited 10. If that is the case you must shoot 40 caliber or bigger to be scored major.
Just to support what other posters have stated about not being able to shoot production. The following is an email I recieved when I questioned changing out the barrel on my G35 to 9mm to shoot production.
Hi Kim,
The Glock 35 model was approved for Production in .40 caliber, that is the
only way it comes from the factory, the model 34 is the 9mm, the 2008 rules
will stipulate that barrels may be replaced, but they must be the same
length, contour, and caliber as original factory, so to put the answer
simply, no, this cannot be done.
