View Full Version : service life of a Kahr
I'm going to buy a Kahr in the next couple months. I read that the polymer frame Kahr's are only designed for a 6000 round service life. Is this true? If so, what is the service life of the all metal frame like the M9093 MK9?

That was printed in an article awhile back and took hold. One of our forum members has a diminutive PM9 that is approaching 15k rounds in quick fashion. Unreal. I have a P9 that is over 3-years old and still looks brand new. Also, the Kahr polymer frame has a very strong steel reinforced area (the dust cover) which represent the front rails. The Kahr's frame is very strong and durable.
Worry not my friend!
The steel framed Kahrs were torture tested by Kahr for at least 10k rounds (during development) and I also know several forum posters that have K9s that are approaching 20k rounds. Maybe some of them will speak up here.
Here's my opinion. The Kahr is phenomenal carry piece. IOWs, they are not battle-grade implements like Beretta/Sig/XD/Glock/H&K/Walther/CZ/M&P...these are true service pistols suitable for police & military use right out of the box with no upgrades. Kahrs (I don't think) will be able to go 300k rounds like Chuck Taylor's G17 that he's been torture testing for 10-years. But that is no fault of the Kahr; the Kahr is much smaller and I think that will play into its real service life. Get the Kahr, but if you want to shoot 3,000 rounds a year -- get a Glock or an XD to take a majority of the punishment.

ive sold kahrs for years. i dont think most people shoot these guns that much, but i shoot mine all the time. i have over 5000 rds through my pm9 and i have a new one in the display case right now and except for the changes ive made to mine you cant tell them apart. one is just as tight as the other. when the slide falls off on the ground, ill let everyone know. regards rick

HOWDY MRVMAX:
I recall reading the article you mentioned and if I am not mistaken, the author of the article issued a retraction indicating he was misquoted!
If Kahrs had a "shelf" life of only 6,000 rounds, I'd be nearing purchasing my third PM 9. Like the Energizer Bunny, my weapon keeps "digesting" anything I insert in the chamber and still goes bang 100% (replaced mag/recoil springs twice) of the time! I'm in the process of replacing Kahr's plastic mag release button with a Kahr steel replacement (spring will be replaced too).

6000 thorugh mine and still looks and acts brand new. I carry this gun almost every day and can't seem to make a trip to the range without shooting another 200 rounds through it. It is a true joy to shoot and, in my case, has been 100% reliable if operated as per the manual (such as using the slide stop to chamber the first round...I know others have had good luck racking it, but I have no issue sticking with the manufactures recomendations).
My second favorite carry is the M&P 9c.
They last a great deal longer than 6000 rounds.
Thanks, I'll stick with the polymer 45.

Horse hooey. I emailed them and got a reply - I'm pretty sure the e-mail was destroyed when my hard drive went belly up - but the person at Kahr that replied said that statement was just wrong. I suggested that a Kahr rep post about it on this forum, but nobody ever did. Don't worry about it.
