The title says it all.
Who reloads for a 40?
I've reloaded a number of pistol cartidges and usually end up with a Hodgedon powder. Though I may use AA#5 for 45 ACP.
I am fond of the 180 gr JHP.
My Speer manual #12 is pointing toward HS-7. But the top 5 powders there show little difference in top velocity from a 4" S&W.

So does everyone just complain about the price of ammo and not reload?

Apparently. I've been wanting to gear up (again) for reloading myself. I like the .40 so I was interested in your thread. Maybe we need to check out the reloading section of glocktalk.

I recommend using a ball powder like W231 or Tightgroup. I cast my bullets, therefore I reload only lead bullets. ( I dig up my lead and recycle the bullets also.) Anyway, I like 3.4 gr W231 with a 180 lead bullet. Tightgroup should give similar results. This is a very soft shooting, accurate and the 180gr bullet will ring the steel.

I used to use AA5 powder for my G23. I haven't been able to find it locally though for the part couple years. I went to Bullseye as I have it on hand.
Remington 180 Metal Case bullet
4.2 grains Bullseye
CCI 500 small pistol primer
can't remember my oal at the moment
Chrono reading at 850fps(the factory boxed remington 180 chrono'd at 940)
close to factory, slightly less flip, easy follow ups, and using so little powder, I get a ton of rounds loaded from it.
This week I've been loading 180 gr. XTreme plated bullets over 6.8 gr. PowerPistol. It's warmish, higher level defense-level loading (approximates factory defense levels), not a creampuff load. Not max either, though.
PowerPistol is a great powder for 40 in that it is not unpredictable/skittish as you approach max and for a given velocity, usually has less pressure than many other powders. It meters very evenly (fine grain). Burns really clean. I love it. The only aspect some may not like is the bright flash... but on practice loads, I don't mind that at all, given it's other many wonderful qualities.

For my G23 I use 6.3 gr of AA#5 with a 180gr FMJ;
also use 6.5gr of AA#5 with a 165gr JTC (these are my favorite loads for 40 cal).
