Since G22 hicaps are expensive, I'd like to know what's the max you've ever needed in a high round count stage? This is presuming you have +5 extensions on them. Thanks.

I like to have 4-5 mags for each stage and 1-2 more in reserve for a major match.

I shoot L10/production with 5 mags. 4 on the belt and 1 in the gun. I've never used all of the 50 rounds up, even with jams.

Matt's suggestion of some extra mags is a good idea, in case you have some problems.

IPSC stages are supposed to be limited to 32 rounds (not including misses).

If you want to save money...start out with one or two hicaps with extensions. Carry extra 10 rounders.

You will (obviously) be better with more mags...

But the minimum for USPSA (IMHO) is two high caps (such as what you described) and four ten rounders. This is bare minimum for me. I try to bring double this 'minimum' to a major match in the event the mags need cleaning because they hit the dirt/sand on the last stage you shot...

This applies especially to ranges that have alot of sand or if it starts to rain and the ground gets muddy.

Even Glock mags can be stopped by sand and mud but they are more impervious to these conditions than many other guns! I once attended a major match with a HKP7 M13 and the range was mostly sand.. thought I cleaned the mag enough but evidently I should have dis-assemble the entire internals... if you know about the M13 mags, the followers ride in channels that are part of the mag body... any bit of sand that gets into this channel may/will bring the follower to a HALT... which it did in my case! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the HK is bad.. I love HK's and owned quite a few of them but I learned first hand what can/could stop a HK P7 M13 mag that day! HK designed the mag this way so the follower is stabilized fore and aft via the channels but this also introduces a potential problem (IMHO) when the mag is introduced to sand.

The extra mags will allow you to be ready to shoot the next stage without worrying about getting all your mags cleaned from the last stage. It gives you some room to concentrate on the next 'walk through' and to get your 'game plan' together as to how you might attack the stage versus worrying about cleaning the mags you just used in the last stage and getting them loaded.

Of course, if you're not ready, just say so and the RO will bump you down... I just find it helps me in major matches.

I'd agree that you could get buy with two hi-caps with +5's on them (I use Grams) and two 10 rounders. I use four hi-caps loaded to 19 rounds. 1 in the gun and 3 on the belt. I've shot stages that required 3 mandatory reloads, but it was only 8 rounds before reloading. I use to go out with only as many mags as I thought I would need to finish the stage, but after running out of ammo at an IPSC style all steel match, I make sure I have all 4 mags with me.
