View Full Version : Driving from Ohio to Colo while carrying
Planning to drive out to the mountains near Denver, from Cinti.
Decided to drive rather than fly so that can carry, however the next question is whether I am going to run into problems along the way.
Has anyone done this drive?
I intend to research this, but is there an obvious issue with lack of reciprocity along this route?

You may run into several problems, the least of which is that Ohio has no reciprocity agreement with Colorado. That does not mean that Colorado does not recognize your CCW License, but you better check. In fact I would make a list of every state I was going to drive through and check every state's website unless they are listed here HERE (http://www.ag.state.oh.us/le/prevention/concealcarry/reciprocity.asp).
Good shooting.
If you plan to drive through Illinois must be unloaded and enclosed in a case.

My New Year's resolution this year was to take my pistol everywhere I can legally take it. (I travel almost every week.) So far I have only not carried on two trips to Canada and one to South Carolina. I got a Pelican 1050(?) case and a regular combo lock. I put it in my suitcase (with a TSA lock) and check it. A 50 rd box of Fed HST's and I'm good. Delta, American, United, US Air, Airtran, Continental all with no probs thus far. Yes, some ignorant counter workers occasionally, but nothing that has stopped me or gotten anything confiscated. And my "home" airport workers (including TSA) recognize me when I walk in the door. By my doing this they know their own policies better and hopefully it'll save others some grief! It's no longer a "supervisor" issue when someone declares a firearm.
well, i have been trying to figure out just how to do this legally.
in Colo, it seems that I can carry concealed in the car, and open carry in the mountains.
except no carry in the national parks--unless the proposed rule change happens in a hurry.
i appreciate the comment about illinois----i think the remainder of the trip it should be ok to carry concealed while in the car.
What carry permits do you have?
i have an ohio CHL.

I threw in 7-10 as alternates...
Arkansas didn't show up at the bottom of the list. You'll have to adjust fire if you want to swing low...
thank you sir.
up until now i was not aware just how chaotic the firearm laws are, as I don't travel much
You are welcome.
Looks like if you go south around Illinios you're good except for Colorado itself.
